@LindaCo37019003 @happylecinq @archer_rs I believe that he was rejected on the grounds that despite claiming on his application that he lived with his in-laws, he hadn’t done the mandatory “ameldung” so there was no evidence of him living there for the prerequisite amount of years required.

@AskAmex @PlazaPremiumLHR @AmericanExpress Further more, it’s also embarrassing getting turned away from @PlazaPremiumLHR and having the lounge receptionist say very loudly in front of a busy queue “Is this card a Saudi or UAE one? This happens all the time, they aren’t real Amex Platinum cards”.

@AskAmex could I make a feature suggestion that the GCC region managed out of Bahrain, includes the Amex Global Lounge Collection as per most over Amex operating countries. It’s very embarrassing when @PlazaPremiumLHR turn you away saying that a GCC-issued Platinum “isn’t real”

@CALDER1212 @belliott5150 @ventiqx @bigjim2105 @FrancesOGrady @BorisJohnson There are big societal differences - workers are in the main very respected by society there and their labour laws and embrace of unions/workers councils reflect that, whereas in the UK it feels like it’s more about the business owners, entrepreneurs, and investors.

@oldbrit2011 @martycoke @chalky237 @FrancesOGrady @BorisJohnson Brian I lived there for a few years, and found the combination of higher German wages and lower cost of living, meant that despite the higher rates of tax I actually had more disposable income than when I lived in the UK. So purely looking at the tax rate doesn’t tell all

@TracyOShea11 @AnthonyHufton @FrancesOGrady @BorisJohnson This is a big difference in the mindset between Germany and UK - Germany has laws to guarantee equal treatment of workers, UK sets minimums and says employers are “empowered”. German boss attitude “if your sick your sick”, UK boss attitude “if you are off sick you are skiving”

@dick_weede @foobsr @ilona_mclean @FrancesOGrady @BorisJohnson Germany recieved a lot less Marshall Plan money than the UK. And cities like Dresden were pretty much totally levelled, so it’s not like the rebuilding required was minor either. Despite having the union laws and workers rights of a Corbyn wet dream, it’s not done too bad!

@ilona_mclean @FrancesOGrady @BorisJohnson Germany received less Marshall Plan money than the UK, and has typically had more left-leaning Governments and coalitions post-WW2, embracing unions not neutering them, yet has managed to build a much bigger economy, high quality of life, and higher per capita.

@MarcyGrossman I think that it’s important to keep in mind that whilst there has been a lot of publicity about the UAE being the first to officially adopt a 4.5 hour week, a Mercer poll said that 77% of private sector organisations making the switch would stick to a full working Friday.

@SkyNews There has been a lot said about the working week officially moving to 4.5 days, but bear in mind that over 3/4s of private sector orgs polled by Mercer said that staff will NOT have 1/2 days on Friday, so it’s public sector improving their work-life balance only.

@sajwani The official 4.5 day week only really applies to the public sector though, as 77% of private sector organisations polled by Mercer indicated that they expect a full day of work in Fridays, but there’s not really much that can be done to encourage the private sector to adopt it.

@MarcyGrossman In addition, because Friday is remaining the day of free parking (which helps with people attending Friday prayers), it does also mean that those who are expected to work a full Friday no longer have a weekend day of free parking anymore. This could impact the less well-off :-(
