By applying scientific principles to how elections are studied and administered, MEDSL aims to improve the democratic experience for all U.S. voters.electionlab.mit.edu Cambridge, MAJoined December 2016
This week we’ve been sharing our work at the 2026 Election Science, Reform, and Administration (ESRA) annual conference in Phoenix, AZ! So great to join election officials, practitioners, and researchers to discuss best practices in election science and administration.
Our 2024 precinct-level dataset is now complete! It's our most extensive release yet, providing quality-assured and standardized data for election results across 6,146 jurisdictions nationwide. Learn more about this project & get access to the data, using buff.ly/3sWXism.
The 2024 EPI is now live! For the launch, our director @cstewartiii has published a detailed analysis of the 2024 index and how EPI indicators and scores have changed over time. Check it out ⬇️
MEDSL has just published the Elections Performance Index updated to the 2024 election. You can check out my Substack, where I discuss the improvement in election admin over the decade and speculate about next steps for the EPI. @MITelectionlabplayingwithelectiondata.substack.com/p/the-election…
Each of these projects aims to improve policymaking and practice, and features a strong partnership with practitioners to align research goals with the needs of election administrators, policymakers, and legislators.
Today we’re awarding grants to ten research projects across the country that aim to improve the security, accuracy, and accessibility of voter registration systems and list maintenance practices. buff.ly/g0xAjUC
@Jason_C_F For a closer look at RLAs, you might find it interesting to browse the report & resources from this audit-focused summit: electionlab.mit.edu/election-audit…. While it's from 2018, it links to some great (more detailed) resources!
Final reminder: Proposals for our grant supporting research on voter registration and list maintenance are due TODAY, January 16. More info & form to submit are on our website at buff.ly/G8R0054
Gig alert. The @mitelectionlab is searching for a new Research Support Associate to support research in the lab. The ideal candidate is just graduating & wanting to see what a research environment is like before going on to graduate school.

Voter registration lists require constant maintenance. To keep them accurate, election officials rely on a number of data sources, but it gets tricky across state lines. We looked at a few ways states have been meeting this challenge by sharing data: buff.ly/u6kG7il
Data geeks! We've just added a ton of new states to our 2024 precinct-level dataset. Check out the new states or catch up on our GitHub: buff.ly/pmqQ9Ea
