A perennially important point here is the role of moderates in liberalization. There’s a reason why institutions usually drift leftward rather than rightward. For some reason, moderates usually side with liberals over conservatives.

Post-debate thoughts. I was glad that .@redeemed_zoomer acknowledged that coercion to sin was reason to separate. It concedes the very point that Machen and others made. RZ doesn't believe Machen was coerced to sin but, thankfully, God alone is Lord of the conscience. I

I’ll add that I grew up in a mainline denomination, and was a part of Cru during college. In other words, I’m not speaking as someone without exposure to the EME and charity work experiences.

Anecdotally, almost every genuine Christian I’ve asked came to faith in one of the following ways: - Going to church. - A minister ministering beyond church. - Witness from someone in one’s personal life. - Reading the Bible. Not: - Every-member evangelism. - Charity work.

@PastorRyanA By the former, I mean sharing the truth in their routine lives with friends, family, coworkers, etc. By the latter, I mean non-ministers intentionally targeting strangers for the primary or sole purpose of evangelism.

When speaking internationally, this is the correct way to measure denominations: by family, not by organization. For this reason though, Assemblies of God should be changed to Pentecostal (not charismatic, since that’s an interdenominational movement).

I’m an outsider to Anglicanism, but Barrett seems to take an idealized, modern-ish, Anglo-Catholic version and universalize it. Glad to see Anglicans pointing out some of the problems.

There’s just so much in this paragraph that is wishful thinking. Anglicans have plenty of celebrity pastors and strong personalities, they are called bishops. Preaching is what will grow and Anglican Church, a poor or heretical sermon will destroy the entire liturgy. Every

We live in a world where real estate costs are skyrocketing, and bivocational ministry is increasingly a necessity. It’s not merely a matter of priorities. Give churches in those denoms an unlimited budget, and most would readily choose a beautiful, traditional building.

Agreed beautiful buildings should be the goal, but I think the financial reason is almost exclusively the problem. How many OPC/URCNA/1689 churches are large/rich enough to buy/build/heavily renovate a building, but want it to be plain/ugly? Almost none, I suspect.

I am deeply torn by these weekly posts from my friends and brothers in the @OrthodoxPC. On one hand, I love the humble earthly dwellings of the saints as they gather for worship wherever they are able. Catacombs and caves become holy places when filled with prayer and praise.

FWIW Early Christian clergy wore (nice) common clothes of the time, which eventually became the vestments we know today. The Geneva gown likewise derived from the common scholar’s garb of the time. The modern equivalent of fine common clothes would, of course, be a suit.
