So there are a lot of people out there talking about how $MU’s 3-5 year take or pay contracts have permanently altered the notorious cyclicality of the memory market. $ON said the same thing three years ago. They moved all of the EV producers to take or pay contracts for their power managment chips during the EV boom. But guess what happened when the EV boom cooled? On Semi declined to enforce the take or pay contracts. The CEO said up bluntly; in the end of the day the client relationship is more important, if we force our customers to live by the contract, they will never come to us again for new chips. We would have poisoned the relationship. Micron will have the same problem in two or three years when the memory cycle cools. Are they really going to enforce take or pay contracts when the customer can just switch to SK Hynix or Samsung? Of course, not, they’re going to let them out of these contracts. The adoption of take or pay contract in the memory market will not change the cyclical nature of a capital intensive commodity like memory chips. בית קפה בתל אביב. מצד ימין, בחור בשנות ה20 המאוד מוקדמות, יושב עם מישהי שנראת כמו VC. הוא מספר לה בהתלהבות איך הוא וחבריו מהיחידה במודיעין השתחררו רק לפני מספר חודשים, וכבר גייסו כמה מיליוני דולרים. אין להם רעיון, אין להם כיוון (אבל הוא כן מדקלם את כל הטנרדים הפופולריים כרגע מכל קצוות ההייטק כמו data centers וסייבר הגנתי עם ai). הוא מדבר בקול ובבטחון (וקצת שחצנות וזחיחות משעשעת של צעירים). ״אין טעם ללמוד״ הוא אומר, ״עכשיו הmoney time״. היא אומרת שאומנם היא לא מבינה בצד הטכני, אבל היא כן יודעת שהוא בדיוק סוג האנשים שהם מחפשים, ומציעה לו לשבת במשרדים שלה בזמן שהם חושבים מה בא להם לעשות. מצד שמאל מאחורי הדלפק, בחור שעובד פה בבית הקפה, גם הוא בשנות ה-20 המוקדמות. שבוע שעבר הוא סיפר לי על השירות הקרבי הקשה (שהמשיך ישר לתוך שירות מילואים של שנתיים במלחמה בה היה מגויס כמעט ללא הפסקה), וכששמע שאני מתכנתת נדלקו לו העיניים כי הוא רוצה ללמוד ולהיכנס לתחום, אבל צריך קודם לעבוד ולחסוך כסף. היה לו בעיניים סקרנות ואופטימיות אבל גם די הרבה חשש. שאל הרבה שאלות על איך למדתי, ואיך השתלבתי ואיך נראה ההייטק של היום. זה לא סיפור על טובים ורעים, צודקים וטועים. זאת המציאות הישראלית עצמה. אנחנו זקוקים ממש לשירות של שניהם, ואני לא מחלקת פה ציונים. קטונתי. אבל כן מצאתי את עצמי חושבת על ה-4.5 מטרים שעומדים בינהם, שנראו כמו 4.5 שנות אור, ועל הבטחון מול החשש בישראל של 2026, וזה קצת כיווצ'ץ' לי את הלב וגרם לי לחשוב על כמה הם היו יכולים לעזור וללמוד אחד מהשני אם רק היו יושבים יחד. אולי פעם הבאה אארגן מפגשון בינהם ואזמין אותם לרוגלך. אעדכן :)

🚨 The AI ROI numbers are starting to look very ugly. Even under "best case" assumptions — assuming zero costs, just revenue against capex — the Financial Times calculated the implied return on hyperscaler AI investment from 2025 to 2030. Only one of them clears positive.

The stock-bond relationship is showing a rare pattern: The 2-month correlation between US equities and the 10-year Treasury yield is down to -0.70, the lowest since 1999. In other words, over the last 2 months, stocks and the 10-year Treasury yield have moved in opposite directions by the largest extent this century. At the start of 2026, a positive correlation of 0.40 was observed, near the highest since 2023. Additionally, the 30-day correlation is down to -0.68, also the lowest in 27 years. Not even the 2022 bear market saw such a negative correlation, as the 10-year yield rose, driven by elevated inflation and Fed rate hikes, while stocks fell. Bond markets are incredibly important right now.
