@korrathetaymi 1) He was also the prophet like Moses, duhhhhh. This is a direct association to this, because he was before God and before the people. 2) They didn't know he had raised from the dead yet and also didn't know what was safe to tell someone they thought was a stranger. Again, DUH.

@lwahlgrensmith @BiankaB12 Most Scandinavians who live happily in apartments have SOME connection to a home in the countryside. Even if it's grandma's or a cousin's. It's how you don't go insane. And why people who don't have these things don't do well. Anyway, have to sleep. Big remodel tomorrow.

@lwahlgrensmith @BiankaB12 drive. Because all bus lines must be extremely heavily subsidized everywhere in the first world, they tend to prefer this as a cheaper option for the public than extending lines, especially since most people who can't drive are also physically impaired to some extent.

BTW, in the US, many towns have public disability transit that take people who can't...

@lwahlgrensmith @BiankaB12 ...the concept of insulation. Most Americans with yards and typical homes live within a mile or MAYBE 1.5 miles of a big grocery store and a couple of restaurants. Kids tend to walk to these places but adults don't see the point. They choose to drive. They walk to walk lol

@lwahlgrensmith @BiankaB12 :P I actually live OUT (and that is not so usual) but I usually jog to pick up my car at my mechanic's, which is 3 miles away, if other family members' schedules don't keep up. This is sounding all VERY Scandinavian. If so,.you also build wood framed houses and grasp....

@lwahlgrensmith @BiankaB12 So you basically have a highly American-like lifestyle except you probably have what we call a townhouse and you would call a rowhouse. Which is, in much of Europe, a pretty privileged way to live. In the US, it's variable. Living space also varies a lot there.

Or is your definition of "walking distance" "could walk" rather than "a reasonable person would choose to walk." I walk 10 miles a day at my desk. But if I'm dressed for ballet, 5 blocks is a hike.

@lwahlgrensmith @BiankaB12 It is massively less affordable or practical for many Europeans to own cars. You describe a life that is decent for a college student. But it is barely tolerable for someone with a family. Which makes it a defective lifestyle for any civilization to encourage.

The thing is, we can have Oslo-like opportunities in hundreds of cities across the country that ALSO give you whatever you prefer of living standards.

@lwahlgrensmith @BiankaB12 I'm glad he is able to have that. It sounds like a fairly small town in Scandinavia. The issue is that you can have those things in, say, Norway but your careers are fairly narrow, at least as far as white collar/information worker jobs go. If it's not a tourist town...

@lwahlgrensmith @BiankaB12 And I mean sure, you might have something like the Tulsa ballet locally, but you can get really seriously excellent performances on tour. I saw the Bolshoi twice growing up. And we were dead broke when I was a kid so there were many more opportunities.
