📺This scene from The Bob Newhart Show is pure classic sitcom absurdity. Bob’s patient is a ventriloquist who believes his dummy wants to leave the act and go solo. The dummy starts talking back during the therapy session, and Newhart just plays it completely straight. That deadpan reaction to escalating nonsense is what he did better than almost anyone. It’s a great example of how the show could take a ridiculous premise and make it work through understatement. ❓I used to watch this show when I was about 11 years old. It was so funny.
