A Valhol update! Unfortunately, I'm back to regular 9-5 office work. Obviously, this is going to push the timeline for release out somewhat... It does mean I don't need to rush though - I'm determined Valhol is going to be something very special!

Valhol diary - let's talk about wives and family! (WIP) Here you have come to a big city in search of a wife. Even the chieftain's daughter is available! Will you marry for the wealth that brings? She looks a little sickly though... Have you amassed enough glory and wealth that she will have you? All Vikings cared greatly about their families. Having lots of healthy children is a great source of glory - and if the worst happens and you fall in battle, you can always restart the game as one of your sons!

One of the things I like most about Battle Brothers, #overhype, is that every so often you get something totally unique - even after x thousand hours play time. This Gladiator has 3* Attack and Defence, plus the Trait that gives you extra fatigue recovery. But check out his hammer. Insane damage, which mostly just ignores armour. He one shots Ancient Honour Guards every hit. Just completed the Black Monolith with 15 kills...

Here's the next instalment of my Valhol Dev Diary - Combat! Here's a battle against 3 bandits. Combat will be very familiar to anyone who has played my other games - although we now have hexes, and hopefully everything looks a lot slicker. It's not quite there yet, does anyone have any tips to improve?

Ready for some more Valhol news? This is the most finished part of the game, the strategic map. As you see we now have hexes and it's all randomly generated for each game. Turn-based movement rather than real time... Basically, you move one hex, this is resolved, then all the other parties get to move too. If you made a slow move (e.g. onto a mountain tile) they might even move several times. We've got towns, villages, cities, ruins, spider nests and dungeons so far, plus wandering wolves, bandits and mammoths...

Think Battle Brothers level of fantasy. Less like my previous games where magic is everywhere and the battlefields frequently end up full of summoned monsters and flaming fields... Magic will be quite rare, monsters fairly common. It will be English only at first, but I am coding this one so it can be easily translated.

@GridCommander Blood Bowl is amazing... If you can suffer past being smashed by vets while you learn the game. (overcoming the mind boggling ineptitude of the AI is not much better) I'm on the lookout for a good competitive multiplayer strategy game...
