Michigan’s Children supports Michigan Advocates to End Seclusion and Restraint and efforts to end the use of seclusion while ensuring restraint is used only as a true last resort in emergencies.
Michigan students were secluded or restrained nearly 18,000 times during the 2024–25 school year, with the vast majority of incidents involving students with disabilities.

I was born in February 1996, and somewhere in that brief window between the vaccine becoming available and both of us being fully protected, we each contracted chickenpox. At the time, it felt like a normal childhood illness.
When the chickenpox vaccine was added to the childhood immunization schedule in 1995, I was too young to receive it. My older brother, born in November 1994, came along just before the recommendation was widely implemented.

Michigan's Children will continue to champion and protect Medicaid because every kid deserves the opportunity to grow up healthy and thrive.
Those stories served as a reminder that Medicaid is more than a health insurance program. It is a lifeline for Michigan families, covering nearly 45% of all childbirths in the state and ensuring children have access to the care they need from the very beginning.
Hundreds of advocates gathered today at the State Capitol to celebrate the 61st anniversary of Medicaid, sharing powerful stories about the role the program has played in their lives and the lives of their loved ones.
