I’m starting the process of building my own bottom up AI loop for work. Step one was spamming every access request ticket I could find until I got access to what I wanted (cursor). Step two is adding a little bit to the loop every day while auditing outputs and reasoning along the way. Will check back in 6 months. I will have either wasted an enormous amount of time and a small amount of compute, or the only work task left for me to do is show up to the client dinners.

So why isn’t everyone doing this? 1. The middle manager tax. In large corps, bottom up approaches often get roadblocked because it’s harder for execs to get internal brownie points / credit. So they usually get abandon for approaches where they can take credit. 2. Talent bottleneck. How many guys in your hundred person sales org do you trust to open up cursor and build something useful? 3. Time tax. In a bottom up approach, your time spent on task is not protected. You must meet the current workload, and then find additional time to build.

The only real way for AI to integrate in workspaces that predate enterprise AI, is bottom up. Top down approaches, where an executive inks a deal with some AI tool and adds it to the workspace will forever be lacking and forever patching holes. But a bottom up approach, where ICs are given access to open ended build tools (cursor, codex, grok) and can build AI loops ground up to replace their workflow or meet team goals…. This is the way
