Before filming American Psycho, Christian Bale met with author Bret Easton Ellis and stayed completely in character as Patrick Bateman. After just 10 minutes, Ellis reportedly asked him to stop, later calling it one of the creepiest experiences of his life.
Michael Phillips is a 38-year-old art dealer from North Carolina who claims to have the world's smallest penis. Phillips was diagnosed with a 0.38 inch micropenis. The condition is usually the result of a fetal testosterone deficiency. He appeared on ITV's This Morning in January 2026 to discuss how the condition has affected his life and relationships. He said he won't do one night stands and struggles to use public bathrooms. His reason for going public was straightforward. He said if more people realised it was a medical condition from a young age, "they could be taken and seen by a doctor, and hopefully get treatment that would actually provide some level of help." His advice to others with the condition: "Find a place where you can talk about it freely or where you feel comfortable.
A Missouri woman who fostered over 200 children allegedly traded one for a monkey. Brenda R. Deutsch, 70, pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child after investigators found she had sent a teenage foster daughter to live with a friend in Texas because the two weren't getting along. Witnesses told authorities a monkey was brought back to Missouri after the girl was delivered to Texas. Prosecutors were investigating whether it constituted trafficking.
Police in Australia are searching for missing magician Daniel Hidden after he seemingly vanished without a trace. Daniel Hidden is a 26-year-old Gold Coast magician, mentalist and self-described "deception artist" known for mind-reading shows and psychological illusions across Queensland. At approximately 3am on 14 June 2026, he was seen leaving his Broadbeach home in a silver Hyundai Santa Fe towing a caravan. His phone was switched off three hours later. Nobody has heard from him since. Two days after he disappeared, police found his car and caravan abandoned in a car park on Currumbin Creek Road in Currumbin Valley, near a popular hiking area around Gorge Falls and Cougal Cascades. His brother Ilya said: "He hasn't taken his phone with him, which is a bit unusual. A week without contact or shelter, that's pretty unusual to us." He added that the area where the car was found holds deep significance for Daniel: "He's got the coordinates of a spot in this place tattooed on his fingers." Then came the detail that broke the internet. Hidden's professional website currently reads: "Transformation requires disappearance." Another message says: "The new experience is currently under construction." Police say there is no confirmed link between the messages and his disappearance, and the case is not being treated as suspicious. The search has since escalated to involve roughly 100 volunteers, Queensland Police, firefighters, drones, aerial assets, and the Australian Defence Force.
Angela Diaz became obsessed with destroying her husband's ex-fiancée Michelle Hadley. She sent herself threatening emails pretending to be Hadley, posted fake r*pe fantasy ads online using Hadley's details, and called 911 fabricating a se*ual assault, all to frame Hadley for stalking. Hadley spent 88 days in jail facing life in prison before investigators realised Diaz had fabricated everything. Diaz was sentenced to five years in prison.
In 2013, Julia Merfeld hired a hitman to k*ll her husband so she could be with her lover without the inconvenience of a divorce. The hitman was an undercover police officer. The entire negotiation was recorded on video including her telling the officer it was "easier than divorcing him." She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to between 5 and 25 years in prison.
Three little girls arrived at summer camp for the first time on June 12, 1977. They were m*rdered before sunrise. The case was never officially solved, but nearly 50 years later, DNA finally pointed to who did it, a man who had already d*ed in prison. Lori Lee Farmer, 8, Michele Heather Guse, 9, and Doris Denise Milner, 10, arrived at Camp Scott in Mayes County, Oklahoma on June 12, 1977. That evening the three girls sheltered from a thunderstorm in Tent 8. A camp counsellor found their bodies the following morning, stuffed in sleeping bags and scattered through the woods. There had been a warning nobody acted on. Two months earlier, during an on-site training session, a counsellor found her belongings ransacked and a handwritten note inside an empty box: "We are on a mission to k*ll three girls in tent one." The note was not taken seriously enough. Gene Leroy Hart, a local man and high school football star raised a mile from the m*rder scene, was arrested as the primary suspect. He had escaped from prison while serving time for other crimes. Despite physical evidence including sperm samples, the jury acquitted him in 1979. Hart died of a heart attack in prison months later, still serving his original sentence. Decades later, the Mayes County Sheriff reopened the case at the request of Lori Farmer's mother. New DNA testing ruled out every other possible suspect and confirmed Hart's involvement. “There is no room for doubt," the Sheriff said. Kristin Chenoweth, who hosted the Hulu documentary about the case, revealed she had been scheduled to attend Camp Scott that same summer but was prevented by illness.
On May 10, 1996, Scott Fischer stood on top of the world. He never made it back down. This is the final photo captured of him. Fischer was a 40-year-old Seattle-based climbing guide and founder of Mountain Madness, one of the first commercial guiding companies on Everest. He had summited K2 without supplemental oxygen alongside Ed Viesturs, and was among the most accomplished American climbers of his generation. On the afternoon of the summit push, Fischer reached the top later than planned, after 3:30pm. On the descent, he lost consciousness due to severe hypothermia and cerebral oedema and died approximately 1,200 feet above the South Col, unable to move further. What made his passing particularly brutal was the context surrounding it. Every other member of his Mountain Madness team made it back safely. Fischer remained behind during the descent and never returned. His guide Anatoli Boukreev, who had descended ahead of the group to recover at Camp 4, later went back up into the storm three times that night to rescue stranded climbers, saving multiple lives. When Boukreev finally located Fischer, he was already beyond help. His reported words were: "There is nothing I can do. Scott is dead." Fischer's body remains on Everest to this day. He was 40 years old, and left behind two children. The disaster was documented in Jon Krakauer's book Into Thin Air, and Fischer was portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal in the 2015 film Everest.
Before she was famous, Kesha admitted that she bribed a gardener to help her get under the gate at Prince's house so she could give him her demo. She has told the story in multiple interviews, that as a struggling teenage demo artist trying to get her music heard, she bribed a gardener to let her slip under the gate of Prince's Los Angeles property. She found a door unlocked, walked inside, and came face to face with Prince himself in his own home. She immediately turned around and ran out without saying a single word. She never actually delivered the demo. The whole plan collapsed the moment it succeeded. She later described it as one of the most mortifying moments of her life, that she had gone through all that effort and nerve, got further than anyone should have, and then completely lost her nerve the second she achieved it. Prince was reportedly just standing there. She just turned and fled.
A 16-year-old collapsed and d*ed after drinking two energy drinks, a latte, and a Mountain Dew in under 2 hours. Davis Allen Cripe was a healthy 16-year-old with no heart condition. He collapsed and died at school in South Carolina in April 2017. The coroner didn't blame a pre-existing problem. He blamed a large Mountain Dew, a café latte, and an energy drink consumed in under two hours. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts held a press conference specifically to clarify that Davis had no underlying heart condition and that caffeine toxicity caused a fatal cardiac arrhythmia. "This is not a caffeine overdose," Watts said. "We're not saying that. What we're saying is that this is a caffeine-induced cardiac event." The total caffeine across the three drinks was estimated at between 400 and 470 milligrams, consumed rapidly within approximately two hours. The FDA's general guidance puts 400mg per day as the threshold above which cardiovascular risks increase in healthy adults. Davis hit that threshold in a single sitting with no time for his body to process it between drinks. Davis had been at school for a robotics competition. He collapsed after a break and could not be revived. He was 16 years old and had done nothing most teenagers don't do every day. The speed and volume of consumption was what killed him.
On June 3, 2026, an 18-year-old Texas woman tragically lost her life in a crash while driving to her new summer job. She had once been given only a 2% chance of surviving before birth, making her tragic passing even more heartbreaking. Makynna Eden Tumlinson, 18, from Tom Bean, Texas, passed away at 3:44pm on State Highway 11 after losing control of her Chevrolet Cruze and rear-ending a commercial truck. Her mother Stephanie had spoken to her moments before she left. Her father Tommy checked her location on his phone, saw it fixed at the crash site, and drove there already fearing the worst. When Makynna was born, doctors warned the family she would likely be stillborn. "She beat those odds," Stephanie said. She went on to become a cheerleader, student council president, National Honor Society president, and prom queen at Tom Bean High School. Her nickname was Sunshine. After her death, mothers Stephanie had never met contacted her to say Makynna had personally looked out for their children who were being bullied. "I had always brought her up that way. Everybody has a story. You may not know their story, but you cannot judge a book by its cover." The day after she passed, classmates transformed her painted senior parking space into a memorial covered in flowers, stuffed animals, and candles. "Nobody should have to bury their children," her mother said. "I keep thinking it is a nightmare that I will wake up from and she will walk to the door."
Rachael Jones was jailed for two years after falsely accusing a man of r*pe after he helped her get home. On April 18, 2022, Rachael Jones, 38, had been ejected from a taxi after arguing with the driver. Salim Ullah, 33, a father-to-be from Stoke-on-Trent, England, found her alone and distressed, stopped his car, and drove her home safely. At the end of the journey she tried to hug him. He declined and left. Jones then contacted police and claimed she had been lured into a car and gang-r*ped by Ullah and two other men in a lay-by, saying the assault lasted 45 minutes and that her life had been threatened. Ullah was arrested at his home, subjected to intrusive forensic examinations, and held in a police cell for 30 hours. He was expecting his first child. He feared he would miss the birth. Rumours spread through his community before the investigation had even concluded. He was eventually forced to move out of the area entirely. What saved him was a decision he had made without knowing he would ever need it. He had recorded the encounter on his mobile phone. The footage exonerated him completely. In court Jones told the judge: "I said things I should never have said. I am a silly woman. I am disgusting. I am sorry." She pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and was sentenced to two years in prison.
Yemeni climber Al Qa'qa' bin Antar, known online as the "Spider Man of Yemen," has d*ed after falling inside the Haradhat Damt volcanic crater in Yemen's Al Dhale province. He was seen dangling from one hand approximately 20 feet from the crater's edge before losing his grip and dropping 300 feet into the scalding water at the base. The pool of water at the bottom of the Haradhat Damt volcanic crater is 120 metres deep, covered in debris, and ranges between 40 and 60 degrees Celsius. Rescue divers had to wear insulated suits just to enter it. The recovery operation lasted nearly 24 hours due to the steep rocky terrain, limited access routes, and hazardous conditions inside the crater. He was 30 years old.
In 1995, Mr. T was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma. His response when he found out the name of his cancer was typically Mr. T: "Can you imagine that? Cancer with my name on it, personalised cancer." The cancer initially responded well, five radiation treatments over four weeks and it dissolved. Eleven months later it came back, and he underwent six weeks of high-dose chemotherapy. He described the experience as the great leveller of his life: "My fame couldn't save me. My gold, my money couldn't stop cancer from appearing on my body. If they can't save me, then I don't need them." He was declared in remission in 2001. T-Cell Lymphoma is incurable but treatable, remission is the realistic best outcome rather than a cure, which makes his sustained recovery genuinely remarkable. His advice on the experience became one of his most quoted lines outside of The A-Team: "I pity the fool who just gives up. We're all gonna die eventually from something or other, but don't be a wimp. Put up a good fight."
Oliver Tree's producer, Victor Wao, survived the f*tal helicopter crash because he pulled out of the flight at the last minute and decided to travel by car due to his fear of flying. Wao had been scheduled to travel with the group by helicopter to Angra dos Reis when his friend and fellow producer Lucas Vignale learned he was scared of flying and quietly arranged a car to take him there instead. Wao got in the car. Lucas got on the helicopter. On June 14, 2026, both helicopters collided mid-air over Rio de Janeiro. All six people aboard sadly lost their lives, including Oliver Tree, Lucas Vignale, Gaspar Prim, Lucas Brito Chaves, and both pilots. Wao posted a tribute to Lucas on online: "I was supposed to be with you guys in that helicopter, and I didn't go at the last second. You told me that since I was scared of flying, you had managed to get a car to take me to Angra and someone else would go in my place." He added: "Now I owe you my life, brother. I don't know what to do at this moment. I love you so much. Lucas, you were pure light."
Definitely has to be Mindhunter. Most of the interview scenes with notorious serial k*llers are taken almost word-for-word from actual transcripts, audio tapes, and recorded prison interviews. The show exists largely thanks to Charlize Theron. She read the Mindhunter book, realized its television potential, and handed it to David Fincher in 2009.

After k*lling his roommate, a David Chapin drove to a college biology class and asked the professor if they needed a human c*rpse to dissect. In 1978, David Allen Chapin shot his roommate in the eye during an argument about religion, put the body in the trunk of his Buick Skylark, drove to biology class, and asked his professor if he needed a c*rpse to dissect. The professor called security and had him arrested on the spot. Chapin and Donald Liming had been friends since childhood and shared an apartment in Milford, Ohio. Chapin was a Baptist; Liming described himself as simultaneously Catholic, Buddhist, and Pagan. On October 3, 1978, the argument escalated and Chapin shot Liming in the eye. He then put Liming's body in his car trunk and drove to Raymond Walters College, where he was a student, and asked his biology professor if he needed a corpse to dissect. After realising Chapin was serious, Professor DeJong reported him to security and he was arrested immediately. At trial it got stranger. Chapin told a court-ordered psychiatrist that he had eaten part of Liming's brain as part of a "mutual agreement" between the roommates, that whoever d*ed first would have their brain consumed by the other. The psychiatrist noted Chapin had a "warm, personable smile" while describing the m*rder. He was convicted of aggravated m*rder and sentenced to life in prison. As of 2016 he had been denied parole five times. Liming's family writes letters to the parole board before every hearing to oppose his release. They have done so for nearly fifty years.
Moisés Martínez k*lled his father after learning that he absed and rap*d his mother and sisters when they were younger. In May 2025, Moisés Martínez visited his mother in Paysandú, Uruguay. She removed her dentures to show him where her teeth had been knocked out by Carlos while she was pregnant with Moisés himself. She then confessed she was terrified because Carlos was planning to move to the same city. Moisés immediately drove to Montevideo to find his sisters. Ana confirmed that Carlos had r*ped her for years throughout her childhood. Sara told him their father would give her a biscuit after each assault. Moisés went without eating or sleeping, drove to his father's home in the El Monarca neighbourhood, and when Carlos opened the door, shot him 15 times without hesitation. He then called his sister. When police found him, he told them he had done what needed to be done. The justice system's record on Carlos was already damning. He had been convicted in 2010 for se*ually ab*sing his own daughter and was released early for good behaviour, back into the same community where his family lived in terror of him. The judge confirmed in court that Moisés had suffered physical and psychological abuse throughout his childhood alongside his mother and sisters. Despite this, she sentenced him to 12 years in prison for aggravated hom*cide.
Tragic photo from 1918 shows a Canadian artilleryman trying to amuse a little Belgian child. The child's mother was k*lled, and the baby, who had been in her arms, was wounded by a German shell.
Tragic mugshots of young children that were exec*ted by the communist Khmer Rouge dictatorship at Tuol Sleng prison in Cambodia, 1975-79. Pol Pot’s regime, the Khmer Rouge, caused the d*aths of approximately 1.5 to 3 million people in Cambodia between 1975 and 1979. That was roughly 25% of the countries population at the time.
