@druinok I have a spreadsheet with tabs for each grade level and rows for each standard/unit on each tab. I just throw things I find where I think it could be useful with a short description. When I need a resource, I check there first.

I would love to hear counter arguments to this or strategies to better incorporate spaced retrieval into the do nows in a way that supports student confidence and doesn’t strain teachers with few resources.

An experienced teacher may build up the skills of their students and space the retrieval opportunities in a more secure way than I have. However, I find as a newer teacher without shared resources, math chats are easier to plan and establish better attitudes from kids to start.

Finished the first four episodes (and counting) of the @mrbartonmaths new series which cover the “do now.” I found the “why” options for the do now discussed interesting, as classroom culture was not discussed in much detail.

@edulorechris Another challenge I see, like with any curriculum, is creating materials in a way that a variety student populations can access them without modifications. I also think learning to practice and apply a script naturally is a skill, and teachers aren’t currently trained to do it.

@edulorechris I think scripts work for a lot of the introductory portions of lessons. Most lessons would benefit from pre-scripted explanations. Once students start contributing ideas, it becomes harder to operate off of a script.

The worst part of changing my last name is not getting used to the new name, but getting used to saying Mrs. It’s too much of a mouthful. Plus my marriage status is my business. Ms (mz) all the way. Shoutout to all the non-binary teachers who have to think on this from day one.

@greg_ashman @BarryNSmith79 What are your thoughts on the curriculum Engelmann and others created? I recently looked through them after learning about Engelmann, but I haven’t seen any teachers or schools using them now. What do you think are the strengths/weaknesses? Are there any new DI replacements?

@mpershan @benjamindickman What?!? This is amazing. I just taught a volume unit, now I wish I could go back in time and blow my students’ minds! We discussed the relationships between cylinders, cones, and spheres, but this takes it to a new level.
