@Math_files The godfather of late 19th and early 20th century mathematics … his approval was sought by many. Reputations were made and broken based on his opinion.
@Math_files Geometry students … even the ones who don’t like it … love this theorem. It’s so surprising to them. You can have a lot of fun with it, too. I always have them prove it with the midsegment theorem for triangles.
A great read that dedicates the first chapter to Grothendieck … “The Artist and the Mathematician: The Story of Nicolas Bourbaki, the Genius Mathematician Who Never Existed.” by Amir D. @FixingEducation We live in a society that values everything above education so why are we surprised that teachers are treated like garbage? When education has no value, then neither do teachers.

This is only a paradox because modern calculus textbooks tried to convinced us that it is. Torricelli did not believe this was a paradox and he is credited with its discovery. Take a cube of side length 1. It has a volume of 1. Apply the process of dividing it in half, then divide the second half in half again, etc. The volume of this new object will always be 1 but its surface area will approach infinity.

@XYHan_ I had a college statistics professor who, on the first day of class, told us that he is a statistician, not a mathematician. According to him, there is a clear distinction between the two.
