Since this, Joshua Báez has homered two more times. Three major league plate appearances, three home runs -- the first player in big league history to go deep three times in his first game. One to left, one to center, one to right. Best debut for a hitter in big league history.
Joshua Báez has rare power and took the first big league pitch he saw nearly 450 feet to dead center. He’s going to be a a real problem. With JJ Wetherholt, Jordan Walker, Alec Burleson and Iván Herrera already, Cardinals have the makings of something good
The greatest thing about that Baez home run — other than the stunning audacity of blasting a 449-foot rocket to the deepest part of Wrigley Field on your first big-league swing to give your team a 3-0 lead over its arch rival — was Baez smiling as he left the box, tracked the majestic flight of the ball and realized what he’d just done. That smile was a pure human moment, spontaneous and real - a perfect reaction. Total joy, almost childlike, with no chest-thumping or staged showmanship. And just really beautiful. I could watch that again a million times and the scene will never get old. #STLCards
Joshua Baez just went 449 FT to center on the first pitch he ever saw in MLB oh my god
That has to be the farthest ball ever hit out of first career pitches seen
MY THOUGHTS ON “THE ODYSSEY 2026”:
As a child, I was enthralled by Greek Myths. I think it’s why I became so obsessed with narrative storytelling so young. In 2nd grade, my mother (a historian) got us a set of casket tapes with a twenty hour college lecture course on the Odyssey. To say that it’s a story that is foundational to my being would somehow be an understatement. What initially fascinated me about Homer’s work as a child is not what I see in his story anymore: as a kid, the Iliad was an ode to a fallen hero in his last hour and the great ingenuity of Odysseus. The Odyssey was a sort of spin off adventure with the character who popped most (and was still alive) from the Iliad. As I grew older, the words stayed the same; the story changed: the Iliad was now a tale of a vain fool who learns the true cost of fame and a far too intelligent man held at the behest of a tyrant forced to use his gifts to wipe out a civilization. The Odyssey was now a tragedy of that same man facing the terrible truth that whatever sliver of glory that may have come from said genocide, nature and time itself do not care. That the only things that care about you are the ones you leave behind. Do not spend your life chasing glory when real glory needs you at home. When I’m older, it will change again. At least, I hope it does. That is the power of this story its ability to stay relevant for millennia. So, all I’ll I can say about the movie, let it evolve with you as the poem has for me. Thank, Mr. Nolan.
When did art become about social media and the extracurriculars of fame and recognition? Why does it feel like there’s more hours of social media content for a press tour than there are for the film itself? Why are there an unfathomable amount of podcasts and YouTube videos listened to that basically gives a bullhorn to anyone - whether it’s shitting on someone else’s hard earned work (which is just rude: no matter how bad it could be, some people put their all into it and such opinions should be reserved for your own private discussions, not the town square), talking in circles about why I love this and why I love that (which is just inane chatter that serves no purpose than letting the speaker enjoy the sound of their own voice), or just adding inaccurate or misguided information into the conversation (which only serves to foment confusion and an over-supply of useless and, often wrong, data that just keeps building this modern Tower of Babel we find ourselves in
This is the shit bouncing around my head at 3am. This is my “Mediations”
