Now we have full 16 colour, 80 column text out of a Pi Pico for the first time. Requires small overclock to 151.2 MHz, giving six clocks pixel to play with. This mode is using 90% CPU on Core 1, and three rendering code is in RAM to reduce latency. GitHub.com/Neotron-comput…

Start up beeps 🎶 Alt: we see a micro ATX size PCB. When the power button is pressed, we hear a few beeps in an upward scale from the PC speaker. After a few seconds of POST, pressing keys on a keyboard (audible but not seen) causes the debug LEDs to change.
Yesterday I published new versions of the Pico BMC and Pico BIOS with improved keyboard support. Installed some new Automated Test Equipment too… Grab them from GitHub.com/Neotron-Compute in the relevant releases area.

We've tagged Version 1.1.0-rc1 of the Neotron Pico. Barring any last minute bugs we find, this is going to production in the next week.

Oh no, disaster! It turns out the MCP23S18 isn't just an open-drain version of the MCP23S17. It has a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PINOUT. What the hell @MicrochipTech ?! Why would you do this?!
I have 30 units of MCP23S18 in stock, and about five units of MCP23S17. I could change my board to use the S18 before I order the next batch of 25. Or it looks I can now order 25 of the much more 'normal' MCP23S17 from Microchip for £40. Hmm. microchipdirect.com/product/MCP23S…
The good news is the new video buffer chip is in stock, so that means you have zero SMD parts to fit. Hurrah! I’ll go order some socket strips because I think it’s useful to pop the Pico out, e.g. to use as an STM32 programmer to flash the BMC!
It boots! I didn’t have 0.1” socket strip for the CPU so I cut up a DIP socket. The pin headers do not fit into this well which I think is why the SPI bus is dead. Hence no LEDs.
Built board 008 today (Rev 1.0). Mainly to test a new DIO2543 video buffer chip. A picture thread! Please do criticise the soldering. I found it a bit tricky in places.
