🚧 Weekend engineering update! 🚧 Our teams have been hard at work improving the railway and making journeys better for our @Se_Railway @SouthernRailUK @GatwickExpress @TLRailUK passengers 🚆✨ In Kent: 🔧 Installed over 474 yards of new rail, ballast and sleepers at Woolwich Arsenal. 🛤 Laid new rails at Dumpton Park. 🛠 Completed the install of mesh at Maidstone Grammar School cutting to prevent rock falls. ⚡ Continued our upgrade of the signals in the Lewisham area. In Sussex: 🔄 Progressed our long-term resignalling works at Victoria 🌱 Carried out earthworks, drainage, maintenance and vegetation clearance at Merstham. 🙏 Thank you to our customers for your patience while these improvements took place — we really appreciate it! 💙
We’re sorry for the disruption passengers faced today on the line between London Bridge and Gatwick Airport. During our planned engineering work on the lines outside Purley, engineers discovered that a number of sinkholes had appeared on a bridge south of the station. For the safety of passengers, we had to close all lines between Purley and East Croydon, impacting journeys towards Gatwick Airport. Over the course of the afternoon our engineers have carried out thorough inspections on the bridge and have worked to plug the sinkholes, allowing trains to safely run again. Though trains are now running we do expect there to be disruption into the night so we’re urging passengers to check before travelling. We will be accepting today’s tickets on tomorrow’s services due to the disruption today. We understand this made customers' journeys between London and Gatwick Airport very challenging today, and we apologise for the impact this has had. @TLRailUK @GatwickExpress @SouthernRailUK
Following the discovery of sinkholes on a bridge outside of Purley, we had to close the railway between Purley and East Croydon, affecting journeys to Gatwick Airport Sink holes were spotted on the bridge, meaning that ballast, the stones that the track sits on, was falling through the gap, making the track unstable We've since carried out a thorough inspection of the bridge and are working to safely plug the gaps so that trains can safely run again We're sorry for the disruption this has caused to passengers in the meantime
There is a fault on a train at #LondonBridge. Our engineers are currently on site to rectify the problem. 🔃There is a reduced Cannon Street service. Trains are being diverted to Charing Cross where possible, with Maidstone East trains diverted to Victoria. 🎟️You may use your ticket at no extra cost on London Underground, DLR, Elizabeth line, @TLRailUK and @SouthernRailUK services. 🙏We apologise for the inconvenience and delay to your journey this evening. We are continuing to work hard to get customers home this evening following the significant fire in the New Cross area. Services in the south London area are running but trains are subject to delay, diversion and cancellation. Ticket acceptance is in place. We are working with the emergency services to reinstate a full timetable and minimise any disruption on Tuesday 9 June for Southeastern Railway services through the area and for First Rail London services on the Windrush line.
