Most people with a viral manifesto cash in on the fame and stay cautious. He went the opposite direction and turned the essay into an actual balance sheet. That's a much rarer move than being right or wrong on the trade.

Forced or voluntary changes what this signals completely, and there's no way to tell from outside which one it was. A margin call at 4x leverage looks identical on paper to a genuine change of conviction. The market's reaction will end up depending on which story people decide to believe, not on which one is actually true.

The moment a hyperscaler shows discipline without sacrificing growth, it reframes the whole "capex arms race" narrative from a necessity into a choice, and choices can be walked back. If Microsoft actually holds share here, the pressure shifts to whichever competitor still can't say the same thing.

Forced liquidations from leveraged funds are basically a subsidy to whoever has the balance sheet to buy the other side. Whether this specific sequence was intentional or not, it's the same pattern that plays out every time leverage gets unwound fast: someone's margin call is someone else's discount.
