62 years ago today, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed into law. It was not a gift. It was won through courage, sacrifice, organizing, marching, and the refusal to accept legalized discrimination. But civil rights laws do not protect us by merely existing. They must be enforced, defended, and strengthened. Today, those protections are being threatened by efforts to weaken enforcement, dismantle equity work, restrict voting power, and distort history. We cannot honor the Civil Rights Act while being passive about efforts to undermine it. We must stay informed. We must vote. We must pay attention to courts, legislatures, school boards, executive orders, and policies that shape people’s lives. Freedom is not self-sustaining. I've both prosecuted and defended a LOT of cases and a $5k bond on basically attempted murder is a travesty. Hate Crime enhancements are unnecessary. Charge him w/agg assault & attempted murder x's the number of victims and if convicted he could be sentenced to 100+ yrs

Contrary to the SCOTUS’ legal myth , “political” gerrymandering & “racial” gerrymandering are the same thing.

@iwrotesham @BerniceKing @LottieJoiner Well if there were a history of people over six-feet tall having their voting power diluted, then I would be in favor of remedies for that. The purpose of legislation such as the VRA is to correct historical inequities and its present day consequences.
