What was the specified danger-to-life threshold? Which officials and fire services recommended the alert? Which regions were judged at immediate risk? Britain spent roughly £400 million building HMP Millsike near York: a prison designed for nearly 1,500 people. Yet about 344 cells were reportedly empty last month because staffing levels limited the safe operational population to just over 1,100. That is not a shortage of concrete, land or planning permission. It is a shortage of the officers needed to turn an expensive building into usable capacity. When prison policy is being shaped by overcrowding, every empty but unavailable cell deserves a public explanation.

There should be a straightforward explanation for David Lammy reportedly remaining in his grace-and-favour residence after leaving government: Who authorised it? Under what rules? Until what date? Does he pay anything? What normally happens when a minister leaves office? Transparency would settle this quickly.

The government has completely overstepped here. An emergency alert, complete with a loud siren, should be reserved for genuine emergencies. A terrorist attack. A major national disaster. An imminent threat to life. Not to tell people not to have a BBQ during a heatwave. Cry wolf often enough and people stop listening. That’s exactly what happens when the emergency alert system is used for non emergencies. I’ve turned mine off.

Together they represent one of the biggest transfers of wealth from households and businesses to the Treasury in decades - with no noticeable improvement in public services. Eritrean migrant Abel Ghebrehiwret that lives in the Sighthill area of Glasgow has targeted and violently robbed several Glaswegian pensioner women. In 2021 he robbed and assaulted an 89 year old women and several other women of senior age. Robbed and assaulted a 66 Year old Woman. Robbed a 59 year old woman. In 2025 stalked and Robbed an 86 year old woman in Possilpark as she walked home from church. Days later he struck again assaulting and robbing a 66 year old woman. Only last year a judge in Glasgow sheriff court remanded him stating "I am far from satisfied that any licence period will be sufficient enough to protect the public from serious harm by you and you will be remanded in custody." Fast forward to July this year he is already back on the streets this time back lurking around Possilpark area. He followed a 79 year old disabled woman back to her home in Mansion street violently attacked and dragged her off of her mobility scooter and robbed her. Lives in the Sighthill area of Glasgow with his family get the whole lot of them out right now !

The evidence of harm is real and important to share but it misses a critical point. The harm had not been measured at the time pregnant women and others were being pressured sometimes coerced into having a medical intervention. That was wrong EVEN IF IT HAD BEEN SAFE.
