A 2y/o child has no business going to school yet, but many people reading this post and the quoted post would argue that with me because they are mostly Nigerians. Daycare is fine, but a proper school is a No-No. In the US, kids start kindergarten at age five and resume for first grade (pry 1) proper at age six. In the UK, kids start reception at age four and resume for year one (pry1) at age five. In Germany, kids start primary 1 at age six. In Finland, kids compulsorily start primary school when they are 7 yrs old. In Canada and Australia, kids can start kindergarten at ages 4 or 5, but they won't be allowed to start primary school proper (Grade 1) until they are six years old. Enrolling a 1y/o or 2y/o child in a school won't make the child more intelligent than her peer in other parts of the world who aren't starting school until they are 4 or 5 yrs old. However, we are all free to do whatever we feel is OK to us because we are Nigerians and everyone is a law onto him/herself.

I watched an episode of The Honest Bunch a few days ago, the one where they had Portable as a guest. Before you judge me and ask why I would watch a podcast where Portable is a guest, understand that only a fool believes there is nothing to learn from another man. Portable, whatever your opinion of him, has made a name for himself. It follows, then, that I would want to hear him speak, if only to understand him, or at the very least, be entertained. As the conversation went on, the hosts asked him a number of questions. Whenever they praised him or spoke about his success, he seemed eager to answer, happy to engage. But the moment they brought up his dropping out of school or his many public clashes, truths as obvious as sunlight, his demeanour changed. He became uneasy, almost offended. The hosts sensed it immediately and, wisely, steered the conversation back to safer ground. They returned to his achievements, to the things that celebrated him, and almost at once his mood changed. This movie perfectly summarizes what we debate about every day on social media. Until you live this reality, you may never truly understand it. Unfortunately, many women are trapped in this madness and continue to make excuses for it. What you repeatedly allow may become what you’re expected to endure for the rest of your life. That’s why it’s important to be clear and insistent about the kind of partnership you want. My husband and I both work corporate 9-to-5 jobs. We have two children, and neither person’s career is more important than the other’s. I completed my MS program as a wife and mother because I refuse to be left behind while everyone else moves forward. We are a team. In the morning, we wake up and head in different directions. He goes to the kids’ room to get them ready while I head downstairs to clean up and prepare breakfast. In my absence, he can microwave the food I’ve already cooked, bathe the kids, dress them, and take care of whatever needs to be done. And my “absence” doesn’t always have to mean I’m doing something important. I could be running errands, at the gym, enjoying the spa, or simply taking personal time for myself without worrying that everything at home will fall apart. The same applies when he’s absent. The house will continue to function 100%. Nobody is “helping” the other person raise their own children or manage their own home. We are both responsible for the family we created. That is partnership!
