On #NationalTrailsDay (&every day) we join with @AmericanHiking Society in asking everyone to pledge to pick up trash or help on a trail work project. Always leave the trails better than you found them. (We always carry a garbage bag to pack out trash we find on the way out.)🦉

#Walking first thing in the morning is a better & more fun way to maintain health- because morning air carries less pollution & more negative ions that help you feel rejuvenated. No excuses not to: Cold-wear layers. Raining -wear a poncho. Dark- use a flashlight/headlamp. 🦉

Olympic NP, bedecked with green moss & so many blooming shamrocks, was a fitting trail for a St. Patrick’s Day hike. Geeks that we are, we had to measure the spectra of the shamrock leaves. Are you surprised by the actual colors reflected by what you perceive to be green? 🦉🌈

The snowflakes fell like crystal confetti but then got heavier & heavier, obscuring our view. One minute we were covered in snow, then the wind would literally brush it off of us. No matter, being out in nature’s glory is so worthwhile any time of year. #snowshoe #hike
