As parents are shopping for the perfect Christmas gifts for their children, watchdog groups are warning that some toys marketed for kids are potentially dangerous. Toys with AI chatbots could encourage children to play with dangerous objects or engage in inappropriate conversations. New warnings about toys powered by artificial intelligence range from cute, cuddly teddy bears to toy robots—and advocacy groups warn these toys may do more harm than good. Age appropriate AI toys should require supervision and have warning labels. Kids can too easily be tracked or lured by predators, and it is too easy to mess with their minds. AI toys can have many of the same risks as what the First Lady was calling “Digital Candy”. It’s better to teach small kids about the ecosystem, while they get plenty of exercise and sunshine.
