Healthcare fraud isn't a victimless crime. It drives up healthcare costs for everyone. Federal prosecutors have charged three Oklahoma medical providers in connection with an alleged healthcare fraud scheme involving medically unnecessary CPAP equipment and fraudulent billing. The allegations are part of the Department of Justice's 2026 National Health Care Fraud Takedown. Every dollar lost to fraud, waste, and abuse is a dollar that isn't available for legitimate patient care. It also contributes to higher healthcare spending throughout the system. Cases like this are a reminder that healthcare payers—including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurers—must have safeguards in place to identify potentially fraudulent or medically unnecessary claims. Healthcare affordability depends on striking the right balance: ✔ Protect patients. ✔ Prevent fraud. ✔ Preserve access. ✔ Keep healthcare costs as low as possible. Read more: kosu.org/cpap-healthcar…
Healthcare access depends on more than hospitals and clinics. Recent announcements involving the closure of childcare centers and employee wellness programs remind us that healthcare systems rely on a workforce that needs support too. When healthcare organizations face financial pressure, the effects can extend far beyond direct patient care. Read more: kfor.com/news/local/int… #HealthcareWorkforce #HealthcareAccess #OKHealthCare
Healthcare systems across Oklahoma are facing difficult decisions. Reports of layoffs, clinic closures, and service reductions serve as a reminder that changes in healthcare funding can have consequences for patients, providers, and communities alike. At OKFAHC, we believe healthcare affordability and access should remain at the center of every healthcare policy discussion. Healthcare policy decisions can create ripple effects throughout the healthcare system. Earlier this year, Oklahoma Policy Institute warned that changes in federal healthcare funding could place significant pressure on Oklahoma's healthcare providers and patients. Recent announcements by healthcare systems across the state highlight why it's important to carefully evaluate both the intended benefits and unintended consequences of healthcare policy changes. When specialty healthcare services disappear, patients don't simply disappear with them. The announced closure of INTEGRIS' Pediatric Endocrinology Clinic raises important questions about access to specialized care for Oklahoma children and families managing complex medical conditions. Healthcare access isn't just about having insurance. It's about being able to receive the care you need when and where you need it. Today is #ChronicDiseaseDay. For millions of Americans living with chronic conditions, access to affordable healthcare isn't just a policy issue—it's a daily reality. When healthcare costs rise, patients may delay care, skip medications, or struggle to manage ongoing health needs. That's why healthcare affordability and access matter. At Oklahoma Families for Affordable Healthcare, we believe policymakers should carefully consider how healthcare legislation affects patients, families, employers, and taxpayers. Healthcare decisions have real-world consequences, especially for those managing chronic illnesses. #ChronicDiseaseDay #HealthcareAffordability #AccessToCare #OKHealth
July is UV Safety Awareness Month. ☀️🕶️ Did you know? Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, and exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is the primary preventable risk factor. Protect your skin by seeking shade, wearing protective clothing, using sunscreen, and wearing sunglasses when outdoors. Small steps today can help protect your health for years to come. #UVSafetyAwarenessMonth #SkinCancerPrevention #SunSafety #OKFAHC
Last year, I traveled to Washington, D.C., with a coalition of healthcare leaders from across the industry to urge Congress to extend the enhanced ACA premium tax credits. We warned that if Congress failed to act, the impact on Oklahoma families would be sudden and severe. Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened. A few months later, I spoke with Oklahomans enrolled in the Marketplace and heard their stories firsthand. One woman with diabetes told me her monthly premium nearly tripled. Another said she had no idea how she would afford her premium increasing from $537 to nearly $1,000 per month. Now, Oklahoma has become one of the nation's hardest-hit states, losing nearly one-third of its ACA Marketplace enrollment after the enhanced tax credits expired. The consequences don't stop there. When healthier families leave the insurance market because they can no longer afford coverage, those who remain are generally sicker, putting additional pressure on premiums. Analysts are already warning that Marketplace premiums could increase again next year if this cycle continues. Oklahoma families don't need more policies that ultimately make healthcare more expensive. They need real solutions that lower costs, improve affordability, and protect access to care. Read the Associated Press report on Oklahoma's Marketplace enrollment decline: apnews.com/article/afford…
Rural communities often feel healthcare disruptions first. When a clinic closes or a specialist leaves, patients may have few alternatives. What was once a short drive to receive care can become a trip to another town or city. Healthcare leaders are warning that many rural providers are already under significant financial strain. Access to care matters, especially in communities where options are limited. Read more: kten.com/news/business/… #RuralHealth #HealthcareAccess #OKHealthCare

A new report projects healthcare costs will continue to rise in 2026, driven by several factors across the healthcare system, including increased use of GLP-1 medications and growing demand for outpatient care. While innovative treatments can improve health outcomes for many patients, rising healthcare costs remain a challenge for Oklahoma families, employers, and taxpayers. Addressing affordability requires policymakers to examine all of the drivers behind rising healthcare costs—not just one part of the system. 🔗 techtarget.com/healthcarepaye…

A new KFF report highlights what many Oklahoma families already know: healthcare costs remain a significant challenge for households across the country. When families delay care, skip prescriptions, or struggle to pay medical bills because of cost, it's a sign that healthcare is becoming less affordable for the people who need it most. We've been following reports of clinic closures, workforce reductions, and service cuts across Oklahoma with growing concern. For many families, healthcare policy can feel distant. But when clinics close, services disappear, or access becomes more difficult, the consequences become very real for patients and communities. At OKFAHC, we believe healthcare policy decisions should always consider their real-world impact on affordability and access to care. Healthcare affordability is influenced by many factors across the healthcare system. As a recent New York Times opinion piece points out, addressing affordability requires policymakers to examine all of the drivers behind rising healthcare costs—not just one part of the system. Oklahoma families deserve solutions that lower costs, improve transparency, and protect access to care. Read the full NYT piece here: nytimes.com/2026/05/04/opi…
Today we recognize Juneteenth — a day honoring freedom, resilience, and progress. Healthy communities are stronger communities, and access to affordable healthcare remains important for families across Oklahoma. #Juneteenth

Recent reports that INTEGRIS Health plans to reduce physicians, clinics, and services due to a projected $130 million annual funding loss are a reminder that healthcare policy decisions have real-world consequences for Oklahoma patients, families, employers, and communities. When healthcare providers face financial pressures, Oklahomans can experience reduced access to care, longer travel distances for services, and fewer healthcare options close to home. At OKFAHC, we believe policymakers should carefully consider how changes to healthcare funding and reimbursement may affect access to care and the long-term stability of Oklahoma's healthcare system. Affordable, accessible healthcare remains essential for healthy families, a strong workforce, and thriving communities across our state. Read more: okcfox.com/news/local/int…
June is National Employee Wellness Month. Access to affordable healthcare and preventive care helps employees stay healthy and productive. For many Oklahoma businesses, especially small businesses, keeping healthcare coverage affordable is key to continuing to provide benefits that attract and retain a strong workforce. #EmployeeWellnessMonth #AffordableHealthcare #HealthyWorkforce
