A bad deal. Oklahomans need to say "No!" Oklahoma is one of five finalist states negotiating with the U.S. Department of Energy to host a multibillion-dollar Nuclear Lifecycle Innovation Campus that would combine permanent nuclear waste storage with advanced energy technology. The Proposal and Agreement Non-binding agreement: Signed in late July 2026 by Governor Kevin Stitt and Energy Secretary Chris Wright, setting up future site and commitment talks. The exchange: Accepting national spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste in exchange for hosting advanced reactors, uranium enrichment, fuel fabrication and data centers. Potential benefits: Proponents estimate up to a $50 billion capital investment and 25,000 jobs for the chosen host state. Storage Method and Concerns Deep borehole disposal: Oklahoma's pitch involves permanently burying waste thousands of feet deep into stable subsurface rock.
