What's one issue surrounding abortion that you think both pro-life and pro-choice people should be able to agree on?

How do we determine the value of a human life? Is it by what someone contributes to society? Their size, age, or strength? The circumstances of their conception? If we believe in equality and justice, none of those things should determine value. All human beings have inherent worth simply because of our humanity. Any other criteria sets us up for injustice. So, whether an unborn baby's conception is planned and supported or not, the value of that human life is the same. And both the mother and her baby should be recognized, honored, and supported in an environment of hope, love, and encouragement. Every life is precious. At Oregon Right to Life, we partner with community leaders, pro-life resource centers, local pro-life chapters, students, and others to share the pro-life message in every corner of our state. This past year, a pro-life Students for Life of America chapter at Oregon State University helped to promote awareness of the "Born Alive Infants Protection Act," a bill to ensure that babies who survive abortions are met with the same level of care as any other newborn. Congress and several states continue to debate public funding for Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers. Sometimes, all it takes is one conversation to change — or even save — a life. Every summer, Oregon Right to Life volunteers staff educational booths at fairs across the state. In 2025 alone, more than a million Oregonians attended fairs where an ORTL booth was present, giving extraordinary opportunities for Oregonians to learn the truth about abortion, get connected with life-affirming resources, and engage with compassionate volunteers in friendly conversations. At one county fair, a young mother returned to thank volunteers. The year before, she had passed the booth: 18, pregnant and under pressure to have an abortion. But after seeing the lifelike fetal models, she recognized that her unborn child was a baby, and courageously chose life. Today, she says her child is the light of her life. Oregon allows abortion throughout pregnancy under state law. For those who support Oregon's current law, what is the strongest ethical argument for having no gestational limit in law?

On Monday, the “Reproductive Freedom and Privacy Act,” which would legalize abortion in Idaho, qualified to land on ballots in November. But the name of this ballot initiative is deceptive. In practice, the RFPA would prohibit any legislation protecting the unborn prior to viability. The proposition also leaves the door open for legal abortions past viability, erodes the state’s laws concerning parental rights and abortion trafficking, and more. When she was only 17 years old, Pattie Mallette faced an unplanned pregnancy. Though she was scared and under immense pressure, she made a courageous decision to chose life. Years later, Justin reflected on his own pro-life beliefs, saying: "I really don't believe in abortion. I think an embryo is a human. It's like killing a baby." Justin's fame, money, and artistic ability did not give him his value or his right to life: he had it from the beginning.
