A long meteorological record from Japan ties the chain together: solar forcing shapes low frequency atmospheric patterns, those patterns favor deep cyclones, and those cyclones can act as triggers for earthquakes in already stressed crust. Weather as a lever.
Separate studies on Peru and Haiti show a different kind of pre earthquake signal. Total electron content drops, wave like disturbances appear in the ionosphere, and matching anomalies show up at conjugate magnetic points days to hours before rupture.
In Central Asia, a stalagmite record from Talisman Cave shows that multidecadal wet and dry cycles track solar activity and North Atlantic patterns. When the Sun dims a little and the westerlies shift, rivers shrink, grasslands retreat, and societies adapt.

Tibet tells a different Sun story. From 1978 to 2018, temperatures on the plateau pulse in rhythm with sunspot cycles. The cold season swings hardest, suggesting that thin air and snowpack make this region especially sensitive to small changes in solar input.

Stealthy volcanoes like Merapi, Stromboli, and Popocatépetl can erupt silently due to warm, flexible rock that hides warning signs. Researchers now know that chamber size, magma flow rate, and temperature all help these eruptions sneak past detection.
Some volcanoes erupt with almost no warning. A new study reveals why: small amounts of magma in small, pre-warmed chambers can trigger "stealth eruptions" without ground shaking or seismic alerts. Mount Veniaminof in Alaska is a textbook example. 🌋
