Today, young students from Yeshiva Shagas Aryeh Boys School in #Lakewood#NJ had the incredible opportunity to visit Satmar Grand Rebbe Aron at his residence in the Town of Palm Tree, Kiryas Joel. The power of seeking blessings and guidance knows no boundaries! Inspiring to see students from diverse communities pursuing spiritual growth together!
Satmar Grand Rebbe Aron on a return visit with Rabbi Shimon Yitzchok Schlesinger, Senior Dayan of the Eida Chareidis in Jerusalem, Holyland at the house of philanthropist Shia Mordechai Schlesinger in Woodbury, NY Discussing current affairs. A meaningful meeting fostering unity and shared values!
I am in a Days Inn off I-81 outside Wilkes-Barre because I drove here to attend the annual meeting of a thrift that trades 200 shares a week. The room is $68 a night. The carpet is brown and has been brown since 1994. The ice machine on this floor is broken. The breakfast is a single bowl of room-temperature scrambled eggs and a coffee carafe that has been refilled twice but not cleaned once. I have eaten the eggs.
I love it here. This is the third motel I have stayed in this quarter. The first was in Reading. The second was in a town outside Buffalo whose name I cannot pronounce because nobody outside Buffalo has tried in 40 years. The third is this one. In every one of these rooms I have done the same thing — opened a 10-K on a laptop balanced on a desk that is also the dresser, made notes in a notebook, called the CEO’s direct line during business hours, and slept eight hours under a window unit air conditioner that sounded like a Cessna.
This is the actual job. The hedge fund analyst at the Park Hyatt eating $34 eggs is not doing this job. He cannot do this job because his job requires that he stay at the Park Hyatt. The companies I am visiting do not have Park Hyatts within 200 miles of their headquarters. The companies I am visiting do not have headquarters as the word is normally used. They have offices above the branch on Main Street. They have CEOs who pick up their own phones.
They have parking lots with seven cars including the CFO’s. To meet these people you have to physically go to where they are, and where they are is where the Days Inn is. The motel is not a cost-saving measure. The motel is part of the trade. The motel is the geographic signal that you have left the zone where capital markets are efficient. By the time you can walk to the company’s office from your hotel, you are alone with the asset. Nobody is competing with you because nobody else will come. The Park Hyatt analyst is not stupid.
He is structurally prevented from being where you are. His compensation requires he generate AUM, his AUM requires he look professional, his looking professional requires that he stay where his LPs stay, and his LPs do not stay at the Days Inn in Wilkes-Barre.
You stay at the Days Inn. You eat the eggs. You read the 10-K. You meet the CFO who is also the chairman who is also the guy who picks up the phone. You go home and you buy the stock and you hold it for 11 years and the only people who ever knew the story were you and the seven people in that parking lot. The breakfast room here closes at 9am. I have 20 minutes. The meeting starts at 10. The eggs are still warm-ish. I am exactly where I am supposed to be.
Alexander von Humboldt in his library in his Berlin apartment in 1856, three years before his death at age 89. Not a bad way to spend ones final years, or indeed any years, if you ask me.
Leave it up to the Lubavitchers to creat an ideology out a horrifically sad story.
The Rebbe, The Rayatz, the Rashab, and The Maharash all have no living descendants.
Its mind boggling how depressing this fact is. Holocaust, Soviet Russia, its really depressing.
Why didn’t Chabad ever appoint another Rebbe?
Reb Mendel Futerfas answered:
I was in Russia for years, we had no access to a lulav or esrog—it never dawned on me to take a potato instead.
Yes, but nobody shook a picture of last year's esrog either.
Also, since a rebbe (in the chassidic sense) does not appear to be an obligatory mitzvah, the analogy doesn't work.
None if that is a criticism of Chabad BTW.

BREAKING: President Trump publicly rebukes Israel over its war against Hezbollah.
"Israel's fighting Hezbollah too long and too many people are being killed."
Trump said he opposed strikes that destroy apartment buildings filled with civilians and revealed he urged Israel to let Syria take the lead against Hezbollah instead.
"If Israel can't do the job without killing everyone else, he'll do the job. Syria will do the job."

Huge blackpill about academia is that one well-worn path to success for tenured professors is being a Very Difficult Person who deans and other administrators just want to placate and avoid headaches over.
Israelis would be really surprised that anyone could look at the current state of the country and somehow make these arguments.
The fantasy of that Jews hoped Israel would become and that it turned out to be is truly a hard pill to swallow but a serious conversation about the future of Judaism can only happen if it’s grounded in reality and not in wishful thinking.
