CJ Obasi (@FieryCJ) will be producing, directing, and co-writing “The Boy Who Runs” alongside screenwriters Kirimi Kiage and Teddy Gitau. The biopic based on a book of the same title by John Brant on the life of the Ugandan athlete Julius Achon. Kudi Maradzika is attached as the executive producer, with Mortinno Morton as co-producer. Chuma Nwokolo (@chumanwokolo) is a significant writer of the Third Generation of postcolonial Nigerian literature, and, with his short stories, one with a remarkable range of subject matter. His best-known collection, “Diaries of a Dead African,” is the rare funny African satire; its characters endure tragic but obscure struggles in a classist society. His other collections include “African Tales at Jail Point,” “The Ghost of Sani Abacha,” and the two-volume “How to Spell Naija,” which spans 100 flash and short stories. There is also a novel, “The Extinction of Menai,” which takes him into speculative fiction. Three things happen at the beginning of Abubakar Adam Ibrahim’s third novel When We Were Fireflies. First, the protagonist Yarima Lalo, a lovelorn artist, in a scuffle on a train suddenly remembers that the last time he was alive, he had been killed at that same train station. Second, he meets a woman who asks him for the time. Third, he discovers the time in the clock in which most of the magical events in his life occurs. The result of these three occurrences is that Lalo’s life, as he knows it, begins to change. By virtue of his newly acquired memories, he finds that he is a spirit who takes a new body but each time dies for love, and is likely to do so again. It was around 2010, the only way to know my left leaning orientation & hippie inclinations was in my music, books, discussions etc. Her friends did not believe her, visited her in Berlin, we went to her friends place where a portrait of a beautiful lady with locks took a prominent place on the mantelpiece. Me “Oh your mom is so beautiful” It was a picture of Ms. Morrison. My offer for lunch on Friedrichstrasse did not help either, not even Mitte was acceptable, simply not alternative enough. Well, my convictions live in my mind & how I respond to the World, no longer in the performative, I am alternative at the High Street, I own all of it.
