@TiliniTim No it doesn't. There's no requirement to use dividends for income or for retirement. Selling shares of an equal amount is effectively the same thing.
Reminders: 1. Lower beta is not a good reason to choose one US stocks fund over another. 2. $VOO has also grown its dividend, because that's how returns work. 3. $SCHD is not "like a 'bond/savings account.'" 4. Market timing tends to be detrimental. 5. Yield is not free money. There are perfectly good reasons to choose something like $SCHD over $VOO. These are not them.
I choose $SCHD over $VOO as my core holding, here are 5 reasons why: 1. It’s a unique fund that has 0 MAG7 exposure/risk while still providing modest gains 2. It has a 0.59 beta and is almost never down more than $VOO on a red day 3. It has grown its dividend every year since
