@SpaceX @elonmusk Could Starship use a layer of sand, regolith, or rock-like material instead of some ceramic tiles? During reentry, the outer layer could melt and erode, acting as an ablative heat shield. Meteorites survive atmospheric entry — could an engineered “artificial rock” ?
