Hoerner is still an elite bat against left-handed pitching, and these are the spots I’m looking to buy back in. He draws a favorable matchup against Matthew Liberatore, a pitcher he’s already gone 3-for-8 against over the last three seasons. Hoerner has been one of the Cubs’ most reliable hitters against left-handed pitching this season, batting .300 with a .338 xwOBA, .352 OBP, and just a 9.3% strikeout rate. Those numbers rank in the 83rd percentile in batting average, 76th percentile in xwOBA, 74th percentile in OBP, and an elite 95th percentile in strikeout rate. Pair that with an 88.1% contact rate (96th percentile), and it’s easy to see why this is a matchup I want to target. The pitch mix only makes this matchup more appealing. Liberatore relies heavily on his four-seam fastball and slider, and Hoerner has produced against both. He’s batting .290 against four-seamers while posting just a 3.2% whiff rate, and against sliders he’s hitting .571 with an .857 SLG and .631 wOBA. That’s exactly the type of profile I want backing this prop. This is a matchup-driven play for me.
