CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR), New Delhi, is organizing a five-day Skill Training Programme on "Design, Development and Use of AI in Institutional Repositories using DSpace" during July 6–10, 2026, under the aegis of the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative (Phase III). The program commenced today with 26 enthusiastic participants from Library & Information Science professionals, academicians, researchers, students, IT professionals associated with libraries, and R&D personnel from across the country. The training aims to build technical competencies in designing, developing, administering, and managing institutional repositories using the open-source DSpace platform while integrating Artificial Intelligence for next-generation digital library services. The first day's sessions introduced participants to the fundamentals of Open Source Software, DSpace architecture, features, and technology, and provided an overview of the DSpace framework. Participants also gained insights into the installation environment, repository development workflow, and the growing role of AI in modern digital repositories. The hands-on training will continue over the coming days with practical sessions on Linux and DSpace installation, repository administration, metadata management, customization, backup and restoration, AI-based metadata extraction, and semantic search.
