Bhangarh Fort is often touted and held up as the “Most Haunted Place in India”, bolstered by signs saying it's illegal to be in the area in the evening. The town was built along with a cliffside fort dominating the settlement about 400 years ago. #archaeology #travel #india
Wat Chedi Liam (Wat Ku Kham) dates from the early era of the Wiang Kum Kam ancient city. The shape is derived from the more ancient Mon-Dvaravati style Ku Kut Chedi found in Lanna’s predecessor kingdom, Hariphunchai (modern Lamphun). #archaeology #travel #thailand

The U-sa Tower is a Buddhist shrine located in a mountain sanctuary created over 1000 years ago by #Thailand’s #Dvaravati culture. Natural rock formations were modified into meditation chambers for #Buddhist hermits. This surreal landscape is now preserved as a historical park.
The Amok Tower (หออะม็อก) sits on the east bank of the Wang River and is a piece of the #fortification built in 1808 CE. The structure itself is a large octagonal building approximately 10.25 meters high. On its western face is the opening that originally faced the inside wall.
The Dazu Rock Carvings in #Chongqing, China began work in the Tang Dynasty and depict #Buddhist, Confucian and Taoist imagery. Unlike most similar Buddhist grottoes found throughout #China, most of the carvings at Dazu retain their original colouring. #travel #archaeology
The Kukut Chedi is located at Wat Chamthewi in Lamphun, Thailand. It is the earliest example of a tiered, square-based stupa in Thailand. It has gone on to inspire many other such designs around Thailand, including several in Chiang Mai. #lamphun #virtualthailand #history #travel

The Phra Pathom Chedi is one of several stupas claiming to be the largest in the world. It's located a short train ride from western Bangkok in Nakhon Pathom, or "First City", where the #Buddhist #Dvaravati civilization first settled in Thailand. #Thailand #NakhonPathom #travel
A 5 minute walk from Kaludiya Pokuna, the #Rajagiri Caves were used by #Buddhist hermits who sought to distance themselves from the city of #Anuradhapura. Many #caves, including the largest shown here, were secluded by building an enclosure wall under a rocky overhang. #SriLanka
Square Tower House is the tallest such structure at Mesa Verde, standing 4 storeys. Its surrounding settlement contains 60 rooms and 8 round temples known as kivas. It has undergone preservation and stabilization work every decade since the first repairs began in 1919. #travel
