For those wondering how the World Cup game is scored, here's what you need to know: Your Tournament Card (locked June 11) keeps scoring all tournament: • Champion is 15 pts • Golden Boot (top scorer) is 10 pts • Each group winner is 3 pts • Each group last-place is 2 pts Daily Picks: 1 pt per correct match Daily streak bonus: show up every matchday and your match points climb up to ×1.5 (being wrong is fine — only missing a day resets it). Two weeks into our World Cup game and the leaderboard is heating up! It's truly anyones game at this point. This week starts out with a bang as Argentina takes on Austria and France faces Iraq.
The best part of making picks is realizing how quickly “obvious” becomes impossible. On Tuesday, everyone has conviction. By Sunday at Shinnecock, the wind, fescue, and one bad bounce are running the show. Sports are better when you have a take.
Sunday at the U.S. Open is the best kind of sports theater. One brutal course. One major trophy. One back nine where every par feels like a birdie. Who lifts it today?
Moving Day at Shinnecock is not about charging with 64. It’s about posting something boring, clean, and annoying. Fairways. Greens. Pars. No doubles. The leaderboard is going to reward patience today.
U.S. Open lesson that shows up every year: Name value is not course fit. Shinnecock will expose shaky drivers, streaky putters, and anyone who turns one bad hole into three. This is a week for players who do not beat themselves.

The U.S. Open starts today at Shinnecock. Translation: a lot of very good golfers are about to spend four days being personally attacked by wind, fescue, and 5-foot par putts. Who’s surviving Round 1?
Give us your U.S. Open sleeper. Not the obvious names. Someone who can handle wind, hit fairways, avoid doubles, and quietly climb while everyone else is punching out of the fescue. We’ll start: Corey Conners and Shane Lowry both make a lot of sense.
