Three years into war, Sudan faces unprecedented death, displacement and poverty. In Berlin today, I co-chaired a conference on the country’s political future. We focused on reviving peace talks, mobilising aid, and backing civil society. It's good news that donors pledged an extra €1.3 billion. An agreement on the EU’s proposal to protect critical infrastructure would be a major step. Holding war criminals accountable must be part of any settlement. Civilians, not warlords, must shape the path forward. Regional powers must stop fuelling the war with arms. Wars ripple across borders, which is why the EU will keep Sudan high on the agenda, including at next week’s meeting of EU Foreign Ministers.

The National Police Service @NPSOfficial_KE played a commendable role in ensuring a peaceful environment during Kenya’s 🇰🇪 2022 General Election. This sentiment was shared during a meeting between the Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo @ray_omollo, and the European Union Election Observation Mission @eu_eeas which was the largest observer mission of the election. Led by Mr. Ivan Štefanec @IvanStefanec and accompanied by the European Union Ambassador to Kenya, Henriette Geiger @EUAmbKenya, the Election Observation Mission reviewed the progress of implementing their recommendations and discussed preparations for the next elections.

Hosted a delegation of the European Union Election Follow-up Mission led by its head, Mr. Ivan Stefaner, in my office at Parliament Buildings. The meeting sought to review the progress made in enhancing democracy, particularly in the electoral processes to encourage active participation of special interest groups such as youth and women.
