Good growth in every postcode and hope in every heart. That’s the vision I set out in my speech today.
Too many of our community facilities are being closed, neglected and abandoned by the Council in the hope that someone will simply take them off its hands. Whilst gold star projects, like George Square, progress at pace, local communities are left feeling frustrated and left behind. Things need to change and our local communities need better infrastructure and support to help them truly flourish.
We are disappointed that the @SNPforGlasgow Group voted against extending the time to discuss Glasgow’s Queen’s Park Glasshouse despite significant public concern. Rather than allowing proper scrutiny, they chose to hide behind procedure instead of addressing the issue.

I am horrified by news of the attack in Edinburgh. I am grateful to the police and emergency services for their bravery in apprehending the suspect and for their speedy response in attending to the victims. The suspect appears to be motivated by anti-Muslim hatred. There is no place for hatred and violence against Muslims. I know it is not who we are as a country.

At the height of the Blairite New Labour era, Roy Hattersley observed that in the 1970s and 1980s he was on the right of the party, and now he was well to the left without changing a single view on any policy. Hattersley’s views had been fully formed and deeply thought through decades earlier. He flourished in an era where politics was shaped by a battle of ideas and convictions, becoming one of the party’s most significant and compelling post-war figures. He will not be especially remembered for his brief period as a cabinet minister in the late 1970s, when he was secretary of state for prices and consumer protection in James Callaghan’s government. (Indeed, he subsequently joked about the absurdity of waking each morning to decide the price of bread.) Hattersley’s long career shows that politics is much more than fulfilling ministerial ambition. In books, articles, broadcasting studios and his pivotal role within Labour’s never-ending conflicts, he always conveyed a sense of ideological mission. The Greenock Avenue entrance to Linn Park in my ward has been closed for far too long. This closure has shut off one of the safest access points to the park, particularly for parents with children and those with mobility issues.
