Today's hearing regarding alleged leaks in the O'Keefe/Read case left me with more questions than answers. If the purpose was to identify the source of leaked information, it is difficult to see just how that objective was advanced when the attorneys were called into court but not permitted to respond or be heard. Courts have every right—and an obligation—to protect the integrity of judicial proceedings. But effective investigations typically gather facts, hear from witnesses, and create a record rather than holding a hearing to issue a public reprimand which risks creating a spectacle. As a former trial judge, I would have preferred to see a process focused on discovering what happened rather than a proceeding that appeared to uncover no new information. The ultimate question is simple: What facts did the court learn today that it did not know yesterday?

@IanRunkle Besides games with anti-cheat, playing pc games on linux has gotten pretty easy to the point I almost never use windows now. Just check protondb to see if you need to make any tweaks and you should be good for the vast majority of games.

In reality, the "throttle data" being discussed came from separate systems and separate datasets. The two cases are very, very different from one another. Mackenzie Shirilla ➡️ Throttle/speed data came from the vehicle's EDR (Event Data Recorder/"black box") after an actual high-speed crash event. Karen Read ➡️ The Lexus EDR ("black box") was extracted using Bosch CDR, but it did not contain a recorded collision event tied to the alleged impact. Because there was no corresponding EDR event, investigators relied heavily on Toyota/Lexus Techstream data. Those are not the same thing. Even if someone believes a collision occurred in Read's case, the Lexus did not record an EDR impact event. Saying the two throttle datasets are equivalent is simply incorrect. ✨️What are these systems designed to do? 🔹️EDR purpose: Record crash events Typical outputs: ✓ Speed before impact ✓ Brake application ✓ Throttle position ✓ Delta-V (change in speed) ✓ Seatbelt data ✓ Seconds-before-impact timeline Think: 5 sec before impact 4 sec before impact 3 sec before impact 2 sec before impact The system is designed around an actual crash occurring. 🔹️Techstream purpose: Diagnose vehicle systems and assist service technicians Typical uses: ✓ Read trouble codes ✓ Check system status ✓ View diagnostic events ✓ Troubleshoot vehicle operation Techstream is not fundamentally a crash recorder. ✨️Why does that matter? Shirilla had an actual impact event that acted as an anchor point: CRASH = Time Zero Investigators could then line up: EDR → GPS → video → reconstruction → physical evidence Multiple independent systems supporting the same timeline. Example: 5 seconds before impact the vehicle did X, 4 seconds before impact the vehicle did Y In Read, investigators instead had to build a timeline from diagnostic activity and correlate it to outside sources: Diagnostic event → synchronization → proposed timeline There is no EDR-recorded impact event anchoring the timeline in Read's case. ✨️The surrounding evidence matters too Shirilla had phone GPS/location data, video evidence, EDR crash-event data, and multiple independent digital systems supporting one another. Read had no vehicle-location history presented to jurors from the Lexus, no phone location data from her (Richard Green testified that phone location artifacts had been deleted in April 2022 while the device was in government custody), no video of the alleged collision itself, and extensive litigation over video evidence and the availability of footage from various sources. People hear "throttle data" in both cases and assume they're equivalent. They're not. They weren't generated by the same systems, weren't built the same way, and weren't surrounded by the same corroborating evidence. Stay educated, my friends. 🫶
