One of the best things I've ever done in my life... 6 yrs ago I adopted an "inmate." He calls me ma, I call him son. The Joy this man brings is immeasurable. I wish every person on this planet would know that Joy one day for themselves. ♡ #NotForgotten

As with many aspects of the punishment bureaucracy, it is only through normalized participation in U.S. legal culture that many lawyers and judges become desensitized to things that would shock any caring, curious, minimally skeptical human being.

A great irony of the law: it purports to set a very high standard of evidence (beyond a reasonable doubt) to convict a person of a crime, but it allows the caging of millions of people without a shred of evidence that it does any good.
