We condemn this physical intimidation and antisemitic harassment of @Scott_Wiener – from the demonstrators shouting about his “Zionist handlers” to the fact that he was not able to safely attend a solidarity Shabbat service as a result. It’s unacceptable. Recall that in December of 2023, a stalker waited for Wiener on a plane and yelled at him about his “tainted bloodline.” It has to stop. These antisemitic actions are not a productive part of the democratic process. They are intimidation tactics – and in a disproportionate number of incidents, Jewish elected officials are the ones targeted. We commend @Scott_Wiener for his refusal to escalate the situation and for putting his community’s safety first in the decision to leave the rally and miss the solidarity Shabbat service. We hope organizers, elected officials, and all candidates can see this disturbing scene as a sign that tactics must change, lest they poison the fight for pluralistic progress.

Trump continues to say housing isn’t important (it is), that it’s possible to reduce drug costs by more than 100%, (it’s not), and that voter fraud is a big problem (it’s not). The most ignorant & dishonest President in American history.

I just donated to Scott Wiener's campaign. Last weekend clarified the November race better than any op-ed could. Connie Chan has built a strange horseshoe coalition: conservatives who want San Francisco frozen in amber, cars, unaffordable housing and all, and a radical fringe that would rather perform than govern. Two very different aesthetics, one clear allergy to real progress. But beyond politics, Chan has shown a character problem. As a supervisor, she opposed police funding. Then, when her own neighborhood became ground zero for elderly Asian residents being robbed, she ran to London Breed, literally in tears, accusing her of starving the Richmond of police officers. The lack of self-awareness and accountability was stunning. Now, I've been critical of Scott before, particularly on public safety. His policies, particularly his support of prop 47, have had real flaws in my opinion. But unlike Chan, he's delivered meaningful legislation on housing, affordability, and public transit: things that actually shape how San Francisco functions. And last weekend, he showed something harder to register: character. Faced with genuinely hostile behavior, he didn't lose his composure or cave to the moment. He calmly removed himself from the situation, then came back to reaffirm his support for the very community that had confronted him. That's the kind of steadiness and moral compass sorely missing from a Congress that has grown increasingly servile to the President. Vote for @Scott_Wiener!

The Israeli judicial system has a reputation for independence. But it has proven completely unable to hold Netanyahu accountable for his crimes. This week the judges told prosecutors to drop the bribery charge. The people who handed Netanyahu that gift are the judges themselves. 1) The Olmert Holyland case had one judge and 13 defendants. It reached a verdict in under two years. The Netanyahu panel has three judges, one defendant, and is now in year six with no end in sight. 2) The judges set the trial at three days a week for years, accommodating Netanyahu's schedule. They only moved to four days in September 2025. They are still fighting over five days now. 3) Of nearly 60 scheduled cross-examination hearings, only 15 went ahead without being canceled or cut short. The defense ran out the clock and the bench let them. 4) They granted delay after delay. Ten weeks to prepare testimony. Postponements for "security." Cancellations for travel to Trump. Each one was a choice the judges made. 5)This did not happen in a vacuum. Netanyahu's government has spent three years trying to break the courts through its judicial overhaul. His ministers openly tie the trial to that fight. Smotrich calls the judiciary corrupt. Ben Gvir calls it "game over." The bench has been under sustained political siege. 6) The pressure is now external too. Trump has demanded the trial be cancelled and called Herzog "weak and pathetic" for not pardoning Netanyahu. A pardon request sits on the president's desk. The machinery to make this disappear is fully assembled. 7) Lead judge Friedman-Feldman retires in March 2028. The defense now openly says the case won't finish before then. The most serious charge against the most powerful defendant in Israeli history may simply expire. The slowness was not neutral. Six years bought Netanyahu time to attack law enforcement, push the pardon track, and turn the case into an election prop. A faster trial would already be at appeal. Instead the case is collapsing not on the evidence, but on the calendar. The court has failed.

As mayor, I can never accept hate directed at a member of our community. The language directed at Sen. Wiener yesterday was targeted, hateful, and antisemitic. In San Francisco, we welcome disagreement and respectful dialogue around issues many of us feel passionately about—but we cannot allow harassment and threats of violence. If you’re out celebrating Pride this weekend, I want you to be able to do it safely. Let’s also look out for each other so we can all have a great weekend. We are at our best as a city when we celebrate each other, and I’m looking forward to doing that tomorrow.

Once again, I watched @Scott_Wiener get confronted over a foreign government’s actions. Once again, he remained calm and composed. A California state senator doesn’t set U.S. foreign policy. His job is to serve the people of his district. Some activists from safe Blue states have become so accustomed to political privilege that they’ve lost sight of the responsibilities of the offices they’re confronting. That strategy may work there.
