Every campaign should stand for something bigger than a single election. Mine does. It can be summed up in three words: Michigan State First. Those words are more than a slogan. They are the standard I will use to evaluate every decision, every vote, and every issue if I have the privilege of serving on the Michigan State University Board of Trustees. Too often, conversations surrounding our university have become consumed by politics, personalities, and public disagreements. Meanwhile, the people who matter most—our students, faculty, staff, researchers, alumni, and supporters—are left wondering whether the Board is focused on advancing the university or advancing competing agendas. Michigan State deserves better. The Board of Trustees exists for one purpose: to ensure the long-term success of one of America's premier public universities. That means protecting academic excellence. Supporting world-class research. Being responsible stewards of taxpayer and donor dollars. Creating opportunities for students. Hiring and evaluating outstanding university leadership. Strengthening the value of every Michigan State degree. Everything else should be secondary. As an alumnus, former Michigan State staff member, longtime supporter of Spartan Athletics, and someone whose life has been profoundly shaped by this university, I understand what Michigan State means to hundreds of thousands of people across our state and beyond. It is more than a campus. It is more than a diploma. It is a lifelong community. That community deserves trustees who listen first, lead with integrity, and remember that every decision ultimately affects real people. My own experiences have only strengthened that belief. Challenges taught me that leadership isn't about being the loudest voice in the room. It's about listening carefully, bringing people together, making thoughtful decisions, and treating others with dignity and respect. Those are the values I will bring to the Board. Being an independent candidate means I am not running to represent a political party. I am running to represent Michigan State University. When difficult issues arise—and they always do—I won't ask what is best for a political organization or a special interest. I'll ask one question: What is best for Michigan State? If the answer benefits students, strengthens the university, protects its reputation, and prepares it for the future, then that's the direction I will support. If it doesn't, I'll say so. Leadership requires both collaboration and courage. Before I can earn the opportunity to serve, I must first qualify for the ballot. Michigan law requires independent candidates for statewide office to collect 12,000 valid signatures from registered Michigan voters by July 16. This campaign is powered entirely by people who believe Michigan State deserves independent leadership grounded in transparency, accountability, respect, and service. Nor do they fully comprehend the seriousness of the situation. This is a significant moment. Tulsi Gabbard has been saying versions of this for years, but having the sitting President amplify it — and specifically name Brennan, Clapper, Comey, and Rice — raises the stakes considerably. Let’s break down what she’s alleging and why it matters: 🎯 The Core Allegation Gabbard’s claim, which has circulated in various forms since 2017, is that the January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) on Russian election interference was not a genuine intelligence product but a politically motivated document designed to: 1. Trump has been teasing declassification of the remaining Russiagate documents since his first term. Now with a second term and loyal appointees in key positions, the expectation is that these will actually drop. The big ones people are watching for: - Full unredacted FISA applications on Carter Page - Brennan’s internal CIA communications from November-December 2016 - Comey’s memos in full - The “Gang of Eight” briefing records — who knew what and when - Susan Rice’s unmasking requests and the underlying intelligence reports When these drop, the question isn’t whether heads roll — it’s how many and how high up. The fact that this is resurfacing now, with Trump actively amplifying it, signals that document releases may be imminent. The public has been waiting for transparency on this since 2017. The people named in Gabbard’s accusation have largely gone quiet in recent years — and for good reason. ⚖️ The Relevant Criminal Statutes This is where things get legally complex and politically loaded. The “Sullivan Rule” Problem The DC Circuit and the intelligence community have a gentleman’s agreement: senior officials don’t go to prison. The political class protects its own. Breaking that norm requires a Department of Justice willing to burn the establishment to the ground — which is precisely what Trump’s second-term DOJ is signaling, but the institutional resistance is very real. 2. Statute of Limitations Most of these offenses carry a 5-year SOL. The events in question span 2015-2017. Tolling arguments (ongoing conspiracy, concealment) can stretch that, but it’s a real hurdle. These people built their post-government careers on being Serious Respected Statesmen™. Brennan cashed in at MSNBC. Comey wrote a bestselling book and toured as a moral authority. Clapper joined CNN. If the documents show what Trump and Gabbard are implying, their legacies don’t just take a hit — they get erased. They become the cautionary tale. And that, more than any prison sentence, is probably what's keeping them up at night.
