Roxi’s owner had already lost one beloved dog to a mammary tumour because she could not afford treatment in time. So when Roxi developed a tumour too, she feared she was about to lose another member of her family. She reached out for help but was turned away multiple times. By the time she found ROLDA, she was terrified it was already too late. Through our Friends Forever programme, we were able to step in and support Roxi’s surgery before the tumour became untreatable ❤️‍🩹 Now, at 11 years old, Roxi is recovering well and back where she belongs: beside the person who loves her most. 🚨 These four little dogs were rescued just in time. They had spent years being used for profit before being abandoned once they were no longer valuable to the people exploiting them. When one of our ROLDA Rescue Heroes found them, they were in heartbreaking condition. These four dogs were rescued from Orikhiv, a city in Ukraine that has been almost completely destroyed by war. For months, these four dogs survived in a Ukrainian city that has been almost completely destroyed because one woman refused to give up on them ❤️‍🩹 Every day, she walked 15 kilometres from the checkpoint to feed them because nobody else could reach them. Sadly, it eventually became impossible for her to reach them. Knowing the dogs would not survive alone, she thankfully contacted one of our ROLDA Rescue Heroes, and asked for help. Now, all four dogs are safe at an independent shelter we support. They arrived exhausted, injured, and in need of urgent medical care, but for the first time in a long time, they are no longer trying to survive alone 🥹 Through the support of our community, ROLDA is able to stand beside rescue heroes and help dogs caught in impossible situations like this. This puppy was hit by a car and left lying injured in the cold for days 💔 She could barely move properly. Someone covered her to try to protect her from the weather, and another person briefly bandaged her legs, but no one took her to a clinic. No one stayed to make sure she was actually safe. So she waited there in pain, frightened, and alone. Then one of our ROLDA Rescue Heroes stepped in. She refused to walk away or accept that this puppy had already been “helped enough.” She took her straight to the veterinary clinic, where X-rays were done, and proper treatment finally began. She was so terrified when help arrived that we had to use a net to catch her to try to bring her in without causing any further injuries. Flora was abandoned alone on a mountain peak in an area so dangerous for small dogs that she likely would not have survived much longer 😔 Nearby were large sheepfold dogs known to attack and kill smaller animals. Flora was tiny, vulnerable, and completely defenceless. Thankfully, one of our ROLDA Rescue Heroes acted quickly and brought her to the shelter before taking her home to look after her. When we rescued her, we discovered she had a dislocated kneecap that had been left untreated for so long it had calcified against her leg bone. Despite living in constant discomfort, she was still being used for breeding. We immediately rushed her to surgery to reposition her kneecap, but her journey is far from over. Over the next few months, Coca will need further operations on both back legs, followed by ongoing physiotherapy to help her rebuild strength and mobility. These little Bichons were abandoned when they stopped being profitable 😔 They had been bought for one reason: to produce puppies that could be sold for money. When that plan failed, they were discarded. A sad reality we see far too often. One of our ROLDA Rescue Heroes found them just in time. They were covered in ticks, severely neglected, exhausted, and all suffering from babesiosis, a potentially fatal disease caused by tick bites. During grooming, the clippers repeatedly jammed because their coats were so matted with dirt and neglect. What should have been soft white fur had become painful, heavy layers they had been forced to live in for far too long. Nessi should be someone’s lapdog. Instead, she was found on the frontlines of war in Ukraine, fighting to survive. She was brought to one of our ROLDA Heroes, Irina, by the military. In the middle of destruction, someone thankfully refused to leave her behind. Once she was safe at the shelter, the reality of her condition became clear. Poor Nessi is very ill. She is struggling with heart and lung problems, and her body is weakened by a severe inflammatory condition. Right now, every breath is an effort. A ROLDA Hero in Palestine found a mother cat who had sadly been hit by a car and killed. Her three kittens were still beside her, trying to nurse 💔 The rescuer took them home, where his children gave their mother a proper burial and helped care for the kittens. At first, they refused milk, but with time, warmth, and patience, they’ve started eating and are recovering really well.
