I sense a deep issue with coaching and development of a “plan” within the Chicago hitters. It looks like guys just go up to the plate swinging randomly. The can “out talent” at times but that’s hard to rely on.

@dekker @Cubs OK. I just don't know how much was related to process. The peripherals (walk %, hard hit %, strikeouts) were all OK. But they were NL worst at RISP, LOB & HR's. Based on track record, that was going to change. So you add in an extra HR & a hit with RISP, the problem is "solved"

Positive on Eichorst: Being an AD is about doing a thousand little things right behind the scenes that fans never see. Mac sucked at all of those. Eichorst has been around a long time and should be excel at handling that type of stuff.

This tracks with what I've been hearing. Eichorst lacks the "sizzle" you want in an AD, but he's a competent guy and is a major upgrade from the clueless moron Mac. I don't love the hire, but we'll see. I would have preferred Brad Alberts.

Negative on Eichorst: There's some SERIOUS Alvarez-era dead weight still kicking around in UW's Athletic Department. A completely new guy would have likely cleaned house, while Eichorst might be inclined to keep those people around (I hope not).

Bottom line on Eichorst (and really every AD): If football is good, he'll be a "good" AD. If football doesn't get fixed, he'll be on the hot seat and/or gone in a few years.

@rnscott12 Agree. There was a shit ton more wrong with Nebraska than just Eichorst. He's been gone forever and they still haven't really figured it out.
