These findings were possible because Alberta collects individual-level health identifiers at consumption sites, allowing researchers to examine how people interact with the health system before, during, and after major service changes.

⬇️Alberta saw a 39% decrease in opioid-related deaths since the peak in 2023. ⬇️Nationally it was 17%. ❗ Alberta accounted for approximately 95% of Canada's reduction in opioid-related deaths. Bottom Line: Alberta is driving Canada’s opioid reduction success though expanded access to treatment and recovery.
