@noveldeadbeat The first book is probably the place where it is most obviously the result of self publishing, but after that the novels structurally shape up. I think the novels veer from "this is good fun" to something much better than that.

@noveldeadbeat DCC is good. I think solid characters (Donut is a gem, but the cast is full of likeables) anchor the RPG mechanics heavy premise. It is kind of like you if gave Hitchhikers Guide a anarchopunk class consciousness and then smashed it together with a trapped in an MMO isekai.

@noveldeadbeat The exact circumstance isn't even true! You get taxed at any age, but the early WD penalty only applies for 59 and 1/2 or earlier. And that is explicitly to encourage folks to save.

I don't know what we need this to look like going forward, but we know what it shouldn't look like. Musk taking Twitter should have been a moment that struck as much fear as him buying every radio station. Speech shouldn't be concentrated into the whims of one man.
