Supporters believe this is a massive step toward earning back public trust in politics. Because at the end of the day, voters can always disagree on taxes, healthcare, schools, or climate policy. But democracy completely falls apart if politicians are allowed to look voters in the eye, lie on purpose, and walk away with zero consequences. The idea is simple but powerful: — If regular people can lose their jobs for lying at work... why should the people running the country get a free pass?
