This is a super exciting release - Claude Fable 5 is the same underlying model as Mythos but with added safeguards. The benchmarks are great and it's SOTA on everything by a margin but I'll add that *qualitatively* also, this is a major-version-bump-deserving step change forward (imo of the same order as Claude 4.5 was in November), peaking especially for long problem-solving sessions on very difficult problems. You can give it a lot more ambitious tasks than what you're used to, the model "gets it" and it will just go, and it's never felt this tempting to stop looking at the code at all (but don't do this in prod!). The model still has quirks that people will run into and the safeguards are configured to be a little too trigger happy for launch, which can hopefully be tuned over time. I feel a lot of things changing as working software increasingly comes out on a tap. The Jevon's paradox kicks in and I feel my own demand for software growing substantially. You can ask for anything - explainers, visualizers, dashboards, bespoke single-use apps (e.g. a full wandb that is hyper-specific just for your project), you can 10X your test suite, auto-optimize code, run giant research projects with custom HTML for the results, anything! "Free your mind" (Matrix ref). Really looking forward to all the things people build!

Your favorite notes app was built by three engineers. Three. Not three teams. Three people. Obsidian just posted a job listing. "Growing from three engineers to four." 6.8 million people read it and had the same reaction: wait, THREE? $25 million in annual recurring revenue. $350 million valuation. Millions of users. Thousands of community-built plugins. Nine total employees. Three of them engineers. Competitive SF salary. Fully remote. Live anywhere. No product development team. No SDE team. No maintenance team. No cloud infrastructure team. No sales team. No growth marketing team. No VP of Engineering managing a VP of Platform managing a Senior Staff managing a team lead managing the person who actually writes the code. Three people wrote the code. All of it. Oracle just fired 20,000 employees. Amazon cut 30,000 corporate roles. Both filed thousands of H-1B petitions the same week. Entire buildings of engineers producing less per capita than three people in different time zones shipping a notes app that millions of professionals use every day. The replies tell the whole story. Thousands of comments. Zero from anyone saying "you need a bigger team for a real company." The crowd that normally argues you need 50 engineers, a Jira board, two-week sprints, and a quarterly OKR cycle to ship anything meaningful went completely silent. Because the product works. The app is fast. The files are yours. The sync is optional. The plugins are community-built. The business model is "make something good, charge for convenience, don't hire anyone you don't need." Three engineers. $25 million ARR. No sales team. No enterprise playbook. No Series D. No bloat. Adding a fourth engineer is a 33% increase in engineering headcount. At most companies that's a rounding error. At Obsidian it's a press release. The most overstaffed industry on earth just got taught a lesson by three people and a markdown file.
