Language apps and flashcards are like gyms. They get you started. But real growth happens when you live it. Change your lifestyle.
Our secret? Less effort on ‘studying,’ more effort on living the language.
You’ll forget words. That’s normal. Re-encounter them, and they’ll stick deeper. Knowing words isn't a binary either/or. Shout out to Dr. Paul Nation and his research on vocabulary acquisition. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Nati…
Don’t translate in your head. Train your brain to think directly in the new language. Can't think in the new language yet? Massive amounts of comprehensible input. Acquisition comes from one thing. Understanding new messages.
Story time! Refold was born when our founder Ethan got so fed up with traditional learning, he moved to Peru to learn Spanish. At the time he thought input and immersion could only come from being in the country. He later discovered Krashen and MvJ, who turned him on to comprehensible input. In 2020 Refold was born! A desire to bring immersion learning to the masses. Putting together the experience of the two founders, they codified immersion learning into the Refold roadmap. Instead of fumbling around like Ethan did, learners could now follow a step-by-step guide on how to tackle any language. At its core, Refold exists to answer one question: How do we make fluency not just possible, but inevitable? If it feels too easy, you’re not growing. If it feels impossible, you’re not learning. Aim for just right input.
Don’t worry about mistakes early. Worry about enjoying input. Don't worry about 100% comprehension. Worry about getting the gist.
Don’t chase words in Anki. Chase hours of exposure to the language.
Language learners. Just remember: You don't have a bad memory. You have an underfed one.
