Roughly a million young Latter-day Saints ages 11 to 18 worldwide are gathering beginning Sunday, January 5, 2025, to learn more about the 2025 youth theme, “Look Unto Christ.” Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf (@UchtdorfDF) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles reminds youth in a recorded message shown in local gatherings that Jesus Christ is their strength. “When you have important choices to make, look unto Christ. When you make mistakes, look unto Christ. When you feel weighed down with questions or doubts, look unto Christ. When you’re afraid, look unto Christ. Yes, we are living in a world that can be troubling and frightening. But do not fear, have courage. You have Jesus Christ on your side, the light of the world, the Savior of the world. In the Church, we chuckle at the thought that “stake house” could mean a nice beef dinner; “ward building” could indicate a hospital; or “opening exercises” could invite us to do head, shoulders, knees, and toes in the church parking lot. But, please, let us be understanding and kind as we learn new languages of love together. We call Jesus Christ’s restored Church in His name, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We use reverent prayer language when we address Heavenly Father and warm respect when we speak with each other. As we recognize Jesus Christ at the heart of temple covenants, we refer less to “going to the temple” and more to “coming to Jesus Christ in the house of the Lord.” Each covenant whispers, “Love is spoken here.” Let us always speak with warm and reverent gratitude for God’s work and glory and the merits, mercy, and grace of Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice.

The righteous families in the Book of Mormon taught one another, served one another, and loved one another. Most of all, those who found lasting peace and happiness worked hard to hear the words of God and “be filled with love towards God and all men” (see Mosiah 2:4–6).

Jesus Christ has many different names, each with its own special title and meaning.   Elder @RonaldARasband once said:   “I encourage you to know Him not only through His teachings, His miracles, and His parables, but to know Him by His many names. …   “As you immerse yourself in the ‘Word of God,’ another of His names, I promise you will feel that mighty change in your heart. You will know He is the ‘First and the Last’ and that He will always be there for you.   “Moroni called for us ‘to seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written.’ He was talking about the prophecies of ancient prophets and the teachings of prophets today. I was once the recipient of someone’s inspired efforts to seek after “the one.”   When I was a young man, my family moved to a new home in a different congregation. I was beginning junior high school, so I also attended a new school.   When I was still adjusting to the new ward, a father-son event was announced for Bear Lake—about 40 miles (65 kilometers) away. My father was exceptional in every way but was not an active member, so I did not think I would be able to attend.   However, one devoted leader, Brother Dean Eyre, issued a special invitation for me to go with him. He was the second counselor in the bishopric, spoke highly and respectfully of my father, and stressed the significance of my opportunity to be with the other young men. I decided to go with Brother Eyre and had a wonderful experience.   Brother Eyre was a marvelous example of Christlike love. He gave me an excellent start in this new ward and was a mentor to me.   A few months before I left for a mission in 1960, Brother Eyre passed away from cancer at age 39. He left a wife and their five children, all younger than age 16. His oldest sons, Richard and Chris Eyre, have assured me that in the absence of their father, bishoprics supported and watched out for them and their younger brothers and sister with Christlike love, for which I am grateful. I had the opportunity of participating in the memorial service when Chris passed away recently. It reminded me of his father’s Christlike ministering to me.   There are many “ones” out there for us to find and minister unto. May we all strive to be shepherds over the Lord’s flock in our individual realms of stewardship. #99plus1
