@EddiesMind @HOGGSofWAR @thephysicsgirl This combined with beta blockers has helped me keep my POTS under control. There is no cure for POTS. Some people who have it while they are young and still growing may grow out of it with age but this is not a guarantee. There is only management.

@EddiesMind @HOGGSofWAR @thephysicsgirl Diet is important for POTS but what you are spreading is misinformation. I have EDS and POTS is one of my comorbidities, I had it long before COVID. The most important thing with POTS and what doctors recommend is a high salt diet with lots of water.

@IanColdwater Generative AI is cool as a party trick but it does things that humans can do except worse. The real interesting stuff is in machine learning where it is used for what humans cannot do easily. Like multi signal processing with real time prediction. But that's not as sexy.

@edzitron I'm amazed they covered anything at all. Insurance companies have such huge amounts of power. This is the second procedure where they are making me go through years of appeals because they decided they wouldn't cover the procedure after approving it. Thanks Aetna.

@AdrianWerner @edzitron Which is strange since I thought they were meant to be a research organization. I would have thought they would pivot to other major issues in machine learning / AI. Bring on researchers to try and explore ways to reduce environmental impact of large models for example.

@nicholaseberts @editingemily I'm hoping all the funding being pumped into calculus and stats research under the umbrella of AI at least continues to produce some cool new developments in data science. ML models at small scales are kind of perfect for applications like personalized assistive technology.

@editingemily I'm so ready for the hype around the "LLM trained on the entire Internet" type ideas to die down. Purpose built machine learning models are much more useful, energy efficient, and accurate if you do them right. One model doesn't need to be able to do everything.

@edzitron I'll also say that there are thankfully some companies that actually do pay for people to train their models. I get paid $55 p/hour training coding LLMs. Unfortunately I think Amazon mturk normalized the sub minimum wage payments for model trainers. Hoping that changes.

@edzitron The problem is that machine learning isn't as sexy when it's for a specific purpose that isn't as wow-inducing as a chatbot can be for investors who don't care about the smaller uses where it can really make a difference.

@edzitron Communicates and translates their communications in real time to new people they meet. Imagine ML based tools that enhances historical samples of things like folded papyrus and nondestructively reconstructs their contents (I've seen this in a kaggle competition.)
