Yesterday the government confirmed a major shake up of local government across Oxfordshire and West Berkshire, with the current seven councils set to be replaced by three new unitary authorities from April 2028. This marks one of the most significant structural changes to local governance in the region in decades. 🏛️ The new councils • Greater Oxford Council covering Oxford and its immediate surroundings • Northern Oxfordshire Council covering most of Cherwell and West Oxfordshire • Ridgeway Council combining South Oxfordshire, Vale of White Horse and West Berkshire These changes follow a statutory consultation held in early 2026. 📅 Timeline to 2028 • Autumn 2026 Structural Changes Order expected • May 2027 elections for the new shadow authorities • Late 2026 to March 2028 transition period • April 2028 new councils take effect 🌱 What this means for communities Cllr Bethia Thomas, Leader of Vale of White Horse District Council, emphasised her disappointment at the decision. Key concerns raised by residents included: • safeguarding the distinct character of rural villages • protecting countryside and green spaces • ensuring rural voices are not overshadowed by larger urban priorities Around 23,000 Vale residents across nine parishes will move into the Greater Oxford authority, including Appleton with Eaton, Cumnor, Kennington, North Hinksey and Wootton. This reorganisation will reshape how services are delivered, how communities are represented and how local priorities are set. 🗳️ Local elections The government has confirmed that elections for the new shadow authorities will take place in May 2027. These shadow councils will oversee the transition period and prepare the new authorities for vesting day in April 2028. Their role will be central in setting early priorities, establishing governance arrangements and ensuring continuity of services for residents…… 🤔 What are your thoughts on this decision?

Today on display was I believe heartfelt deep concern on what has essentially been a timebomb dropped into the mist of a longstanding family, tightly bound, traditional semi-rural community. Not wanted, Never asked for and a burden on the lives, safety and liberty of the many residents and their families. The people of Bicester and Arncott did a good job today, you have my support and I respect the effort made. Many came today to show their support and to those that had the courage to speak well done 👏 To those I met today and had the privilege to talk with thankyou. The security and defence of the nation, the British people, our overseas territories, and our interests at home and abroad is perhaps the most important task in British politics. The appalling neglect of our defence and the erosion of our policing and border security over decades makes the task all the more crucial and urgent. In formulating national security policy and coordinating relevant parts of our defence, policing, borders, and foreign policies, amongst others, I will ensure @RestoreBritain delivers the gold standard when it comes to keeping the British people safe. Introducing our latest policy paper - Impartial Service to the Law: Restoring British Policing. Authored by our national security spokesman, @_HenryBolton, who himself has extensive experience in the police as an officer on the frontline. The paper argues that the problems facing British policing are not a matter of funding or numbers but of structure, culture, and principle. It sets out a programme of legislative and institutional reform designed to restore public trust, remove political interference, and return impartial policing to every community in Britain. Central to the plan is a Police Restoration Act, which would restore the Office of Constable, reinstating the independent legal status of police officers and removing the political and ideological influences introduced by the Police Reform Act 2002. The paper argues that this Act was the turning point that allowed external bodies, political pressure, and ideological doctrine to infiltrate policing and erode public confidence. A properly detailed and comprehensive plan to restore British policing. This is what we need. Not empty rhetoric, but a plan. A detailed and genuinely eye‑opening website has now been published. Read it, share it, and if you can, support the next phase of work. Right now, many of us are unknowingly buying and eating meat that doesn’t align with our Christian values. Halal and Kosher slaughter have no place in this country. @RestoreBritain will end it.
