@IndexandETFs We're implementing the opposite approach (or at least a different approach), which we're finding is also unpopular: Retirement-Realities.com/all-posts/Uber And it doesn't take up space in the garage, but ... I don't get to choose the radio station :)

@commoncentslife Our response would be "Interesting". Unless you're married to those people, raising them, or they've asked for your advice, it probably doesn't make sense to say much more. If you don't spend your money the same way and want them to know that, they're likely to notice over time.

@RachelCruze When vacationing with kids: Eat a *big* breakfast out at a low-cost restaurant and then bring snacks that get you thru to dinner. That way there are no hunger melt-downs and restaurant costs stay low. Another idea: Bring breakfasts you can eat in the room or car or park.

@Tommatthews90 As a 58 year old retiree, I can confirm that this is great advice! We'd invest part to most of raises early on, and all of it later. We almost always invested 100% of bonuses. It enabled us to retire at 54 & 55 and we're having a blast. Along the way we sacrified very little.

@MichaelFKay 19 years ago we were "tested" when my husband was laid off. I commented that this was a chance for us to show ourselves what we were made of. In the end, we concluded we were made of cotton candy 🤣 19 years later, I give us a lot more credit, but it wasn't easy at the time.

@Tommatthews90 As retirees everything feels like an emergency fund ;) With that said, we have many emergency/named funds so that we're ready for anything. i.e. Travel, Car, House, Kids' Weddings, etc. This way, if we get invited to travel with others (someday), we can always say "Yes!"

@commoncentslife For the last 30+ years we've set aside $ each month for our next: -- Car -- Trip -- Christmas (Additionally we set aside $ each month for our kids' college educations and weddings. We recently added a fund for unexpected medical expenses.) Retirement-Realities.com
